Romance author, romance scholar. Senior Lecturer in Writing, Literature & Culture at Deakin (Naarm/Melbourne). My newest rom-com, An Academic Affair, is out now.

My new book has just come out, so I've been on the receiving end of an uptick in AI author scam emails (a dozen just this morning!). What this doesn't explain, though, is that a lot of them are not for A Study In Sparkling, but for an academic book on new adult fiction I published in 2021...?

If you're looking for a romance novel that will give you nostalgia for your old Norton anthology, satisfies your love of footnotes, & critiques the precarity of working in academia today you need to read "An Academic Affair" by @jodimca.bsky.social. So good! www.simonandschuster.com/books/An-Aca...

An Academic Affair

From the “masterly” (The New York Times) Jodi McAlister, a charming new romance about two English professors who embark on a fake relationship…only...

I'm currently reading An Academic Affair by @jodimca.bsky.social and it's the very first time I've read a romance novel and thought, "Oh, I want THAT." Not the romance. Postgraduate study. (The romance is good too! Just not something I personally need in my life.)

A thread on special editions, luxury books, and publishing history: In 1903, J. M. Dent created Everyman’s Library, intended as a cheap line of hardbacks to make a classical education accessible as mass literacy rates were on the rise.

My new book is out next Tuesday, Aus/NZ pals! It's my attempt to write a romance novel about embarrassment: how do you learn to trust someone again after your last partner profoundly humiliated you? (It's also about wine.) Preorders are *immensely* helpful to authors, so if you're keen...

Very pleased to hear confirmation today that the Australian govt is standing by creators and not making changes to copyright. It’s time for big tech to accept the facts and come to the table. Our rights as creators must be respected in practice, as well as in principle. @asauthors.bsky.social

It's amazing how often people reply with "solutions" that a) simply can't be done, b) would require universities to *significantly* alter workload requirements in ways that just aren't happening, and/or c) ignore that some skills are only acquired through independent research, thinking, writing

If your solution is “I would simply fail everyone who I think is using AI”, you don’t know how universities work. If your solution is “I would simply have all assessment be in-person written or oral exams” you didn’t read to the end of Andrew’s post and also good luck in your reconstruction efforts.
