Instead, we should make learning purposeful, focused, empowering, challenging, enabling… & by working hard at it discover that it is also fun, that there is joy in a row of ticks, in understanding something difficult, solving a problem that eluded you, creating something new, developing an argument

This is why, I think, so many teachers are reacting viscerally against the reports in @thetimes.com- it’s not that they don’t think school should be fun, it’s that they recognize that you don’t make it fun by trying to make it fun - you make it fun by aiming for purpose & doing it as well as you can

I just wish they’d read the national curriculum before demanding that things which are already in it should be in it.

Good luck to everyone today. Kids from the poorest families may not have the same safety net(s) for support and the future if results are unexpectedly weaker than anticipated, so celebrate lots and I recommend checking in on them and diarise doing so again on Monday, in a week, and in September.
