Happy Anniversary to Shining Force III Scenario 1's NA release for the Sega Saturn! 🎂🥳🎉 Only Scenario 1 of the trilogy was officially released outside Japan. Thankfully, fans translated Scenarios 2 and 3, so us English-speaking players can experience the entire saga!

One of my favourite cute mistranslations in the 16-bit era. Sarah says 水臭い, which literally means "(you / it / etc...) stink of water", but is a Japanese phrase you'd usually use when someone close to you is treating you like a stranger and not leaning on you / opening up to you when they need help.

Sarah in the English version of Shining Force 2 says "Hey, you're all wet."

i like reading the older persona / atlus interviews because they randomly show you stuff like this, the "commu/slink simulator", a simple app they made in-house to help visualize and plan out the schedule in persona 3

Beep21 has just published an interview with Yoji Ishii, Hiro and Masaki Kondoh to mark the 40th anniversary of Fantasy Zone. In it, we learn that it was the late Yoko Kobayashi / 小林陽子, character designer for Alex Kidd and Teddy Boy, who designed Opa Opa and most of the other characters in the game.

Screenshot from the arcade version of Fantasy Zone. You can see Opa Opa facing a bossSketches by Masaki Kondoh published years ago by Sega on Twitter. Opa Opa is loosely based on these sketches
