Update: this one is, not surprisingly (to evolutionary biologists), divergent from previous outbreaks. Are those mutations relevant in any way? Is there more variability within this outbreak than in previous ones? We don't know yet. Precautionary principle please. nextstrain.org/groups/hodcr...

Evolutionary tree of Andes hantavirus samples. Branch lengths indicate divergence. Samples are coloured by date. Based on a small number of samples, the current outbreak virus is notably divergent from previous versions, but it remains to be seen if any of the mutations are significant in terms of spread or virulence or other factors.

Oops, I almost forget to make a post for #WorldMEday. For me, #mecfs means living a double life: there’s a version of me who can sometimes go places and do things, and appears vibrant from the outside - but before long she runs out of time, and turns back into a vegetative couch-dwelling creature. 🧵

Me laying down taking a break from art: the couch and bed dwelling version of myself, just trying to conserve energy to keep from getting worse Me posing in a colorful funky outfit with a big goofy smile on my face: the version of me as the vibrant human who is my true and former self, but that I only get to be for a small portion of the time

Agreed - most aren't aware. The brief time I dipped this sort of severe, I couldn't even use basic coping tools like a breathing exercise because the cognitive effort of counting to 4 was too much. Not in a 'I'll crash if I push through to try it' way, but in a hard limit *impossible* way.

I don’t think even most advocates and pwME understand how profoundly limited in options you are at extremely severe. All coping mechanisms make your situation worse in the long term. All you can do is lay completely still in the dark all alone with all senses blocked, not thinking anything. 1/3
