The sun has fully set. Protesters face north, away from the camera towards a speaker (not easily discerned in this photo) and the courthouse. It is raining and the lights of Kansas City's downtown are reflected in the overcast sky. Several of the protesters carry umbrellas.
Two signs can easily be read. At the far right in the photograph, one reads "ICE out of our communities." In the center: "from Kansas City to Minneapolis | STOP ICE TERROR."
Both signs hold attrbutions for the "Party for Socialism & Liberation."

As of 25 June 2026, more than 50 people had died in ICE custody under the current regime.

The market's massive steel doors, are not, of course, original 1368-1507 construction (there were a lot of interruptions); they were added in the early 2000s when the building was renovated as an indoor market by the architect Jean Nouvel.

The proposed item No. 5 would end the state's income tax and empower the state's GOP-dominated legislature to raise sales taxes without voter approval and with no cap, effectively shifting the full burden of the state's revenues from a tax that affects high-income earners to taxes that disproportionately impact low- and fixed-income residents of the state.

The Curvaceousness of Calçada Portuguesa ... of #RossioSquare (Praça Dom Pedro IV) #Lisbon, #Portugal April 2023 #AlphabetChallenge #WeekCforCurves

Photo: In the foreground, Calçada Portuguesa limestone and basalt tiled paving, creates a wavy pattern that can give inspire a little vertigo at first. But it's flat. (Calçada can, however, be slippery, especially when it's wet; and it's being replaced in many places because of that.)
A large white column dominates the background. A dark statue of a caped Dom Pedro IV, the first Emperor of Brazil, perches on its top.
Beyond the column and the square, stand three-story apartment buildings with red-tiled roofs.
According to Wikipedia, this use of the technique helped to popularize Calçada Portuguesa, when Rossio Square was being renewed, in 1848, and was "paved with a pattern of waves in homage to the sea crossed by Portuguese sailors. From then onward, the calçada began to spread throughout the streets of Lisbon and Portugal as a whole."
