John Spiers. Squeezebox player with Gigspanner Big Band, Bellowhead, Spiers & Boden, Peter Knight & John Spiers, Jackie Oates & John Spiers … I'm English ... not an American.

I have to say that the most difficulty I have wtth political discourse is when I encounter one of those intelligent libertarian/anarchists who bizarrely tend to centre around so many things I agree with. We want to grow food, give space to our neighbours ... but they blame society's ills on others

Really looking forward to playing two of my very favourite folk festivals in the next few weeks ... I'll be at Sidmouth Folk Festival at the Ham this Wednesday with Gigspanner Big Band and then Friday night with Spiers & Boden ... and then it's the beautiful Folk East with Knight & Spiers.

Gorgeous evening up at The Bulverton last night! If you haven't ventured up the hill yet do go and have a look. Some amazing gigs to come plus dancing, tasty food, fantastic bar and campfire sessions. (Thanks to Steve Ollerton, Wakefield Morris for the image).

Just heard a radio phone in on @lbc.co.uk discussing drinking culture in the bars at the House of Commons … and the presenter said “well the main problem is the optics” with a completely straight face.

Thames Water: there’s a hosepipe ban because our reservoir levels are getting low. Cut to scenes of the road next to Farmoor reservoir where a Thames Water pipe has leaked hundreds of thousands of litres of water on to the road such that it looks like a canal!!

The road from my village to Farmoor reservoir completely flooded by a burst water pipe such that it looks like a canal.

The right wing have really got their Islamophobic knickers in a twist about these Moroccans illegally entering Ceuta and claiming it’s an invasion of Europe. But have a look on a map … is that in Spain? Really?? It’s definitely in Africa, not Europe!

A map showing the location of the Spanish exclave of Ceuta with a big red arrow. Ceuta is clearly on the African side of the Mediterranean and completely surrounded by Morocco.

The foodstuffs you can traditionally grow to store and eat over winter are a) potatoes ... and b) onions as long as you have a cool dry place to put them. I've just discovered that if you store your onions in the same place as your potatoes ... the onions make the potatoes sprout. So you can't.

Boomers: Well ... we are part of this planet and the planet and its life has naturally warmed and cooled over the years so this climate change is natural. Us: But your holiday homes in the south of France are on fire. Boomers: Mine isn't ... and I'll be dead before it gets worse ... good luck kid!

You gotta think even Telegraph readers aren't buying this shit as their holiday home near Bordeaux goes up in flames...

They've finally completely ruined Snickers (aka Marathon back in the day) ... pretty sure the new recipe now contains no salt at all or so little you may as well have none. Chocolate without salt doesn't work ... peanuts without salt don't really work ... it's unrecognisable ... horrendously sweet.

Under a Binface government, anyone who doesn’t accept human-made climate change as fact will be sent back to school, from Year 1 right the way to A Levels, to see if anything goes in the second time round. #VoteBinface

It might be an unpopular opinion, but aren’t pubs and restaurants just businesses operating within our capitalist system? They’re certainly not key national infrastructure above, say, our water supply or energy providers … so why on Earth are we using public money to bail them out against reality?

As the Thames Water state subsidised monopoly have imposed a hosepipe ban on us … it’s worth knowing that it is still permitted to water a domestic food crop with a hosepipe if you need to.

I reckon Mahmood’s shameful rhetoric on immigrants was the red line for many traditional Labour voters that led them to vote Green instead. We saw back in May that her performative cruelty can’t attract Reform voters back to Labour. This appointment is continuity electoral stupidity for Labour.

I strongly believe in giving the man a chance. But keeping Shabana Mahmood as Home Secretary suggests the vicious attacks on immigrants and refugees, and self-defeating attempts to outrun the far right, are likely to continue. Which is pretty damn depressing. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

If Keir Starmer was Argentinian he would have spent the last 90 minutes performatively falling over or kicking MPs in the air … and he would be about to punch Andy Burnham in the throat during his victory speech!
