Social media brainrotted an entire generation. It’s entertainment that feels like activism to some. Some users got hooked early on the dopamine hit of instant feedback. It rewards the most histrionic and compulsive users. Arguing on social media is a form of procrastination.

I don't have to do this. I can just leave bluesky and disappear. My mental health would certainly be the better for it. And I'm sure a lot of folks would cheer for it. I'm just exhausted by it. I feel like social media is a hopeless dead-end and a heatsink away from actual organizing.

One of the reasons I think this went viral even in queer circles is because everyone has seen this dynamic play out in some form in our spaces. We need a better way to root out toxic people utilizing the language of liberation in narcissistic and sociopathic ways to dominate spaces.
