"Managing Humans" by Rands was one of my favorite books as a new engineering manager, so seeing this is a bummer. If you're using genAI to build your next book and are rage-quitting over watermarks, that means you're hiding your AI usage from your audience. randsinrepose.com/archives/rip...
RIP Claude
I've used Claude quite a bit for both the upcoming new book and the next edition of Managing Humans. I wrote the entire book, but, as I've done for years, I've

Pretty excited to be attending the Software Crafters Unconference Online. I really like the open space / lean coffee format and I'm hoping there's space to talk about how people are using agentic coding with pairing / mobbing. scunconf.com

Finished game 5 of "Clank! Legacy 2: Acquisitions Incorporated – Darkest Magic" last night and geez. It really feels like they put all the ideas in this game. But we've finally figured out the strategy for bosses, so that's helpful.
Huh. I can't recall ever getting a solid yellow row before. Neat. Wordle 1,838 5/6 ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜⬜⬜🟨🟨 🟨🟨⬜⬜⬜ 🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
In the middle of reading a book and noticed one chapter near the end was 1.5h compared to the other 20m chapters. Figured that'd be the big climax with lots of action. Nope, it's a brain dump of world building, presumably setting up the second book. Bleh.
Warning for board game folks: this site has a list of industry people that uses AI slop for images and bios. I’m trying to figure out how to reach out to them to ask to have the entry on me removed. Wanted to spread awareness on the slop. www.4pillargames.com/about/

At House Rabbit Society, we believe rabbits are wonderful companions, but they're not for everyone. If you've never had a rabbit before, we encourage you to spend time on our website, houserabbit.org, learning more about them, and not purchasing one impulsively for the Easter holiday.
One of the worst parts of this change is how it punishes the loyal monthly subscription customers. They get less V-Bucks each month for their money PLUS the four battle passes they pay for each year give less V-Bucks. It's the equivalent of raising $144/year cost to $200 without admitting it.

A little rant about a so-called "AI Maturity Model" that's just really a CTO waxing about the stick he and his friends are using to beat engineers into using agentic coding. jon.camp/software-dev...

After a free preview, Blink wants me to pay $8/month more for AI descriptions of the video clips from my camera. During the preview, the descriptions were always useless (e.g. "a person is walking in the room") and one time scared my wife (it mistook a shadow for a person.) Who asked for this?

Decided to experiment w/ the AI coding technique "ralph loop" while also toying with an older "Recipe of Theseus" idea. How many substitutions can you make in a recipe before it's no longer the same dish? (Spoiler: It seems like recipes have load-bearing ingredients) jon.camp/software-dev...

"Strong pairing" has never sat right with me, either in concept or practice. IMO it eliminates the benefit of pairing by removing collaboration and honestly just seems like the polar opposite of the common "pairing is just a jr watching a sr code" problem. jon.camp/software-dev...

I have no idea how Wheel of Time ended up higher than Taskmaster Australia or other Dropout shows.
When I was in college, one of the classes was Windows NT installation and configuration. During installation wizards, our teacher would repeatedly say "Ready everything, accept the defaults" Now that people are vibe coding, it feels very similar. Like AI told me that variable name was good, ship it
Rogue Trader did a really great job of making Ulfar, the Space Marine, feel incredibly tanky next to even my shield-warror. It's rare that a game features an "overpowered" class/species/hero from the lore and they don't end up feeling like a level 1 grunt.
Do you like corporate satire, sexy demons, or crow familiars who want to steal your tortilla chips? I have an ARC of my upcoming book, STARTUP HELL, from @titanbooks.bsky.social. It's signed, with a doodle. And it wants a home (in the US because of the realities of shipping).💙📚
After decades of tech marketing conflating machine learning, LLMs, computer vision and more as "AI" to sell the hype, now those same people are upset when others say "Ban AI". "AI is many things, it's not just genAI!!" You created this confusion for your own benefit. Now you can wallow in it.
