"Managing Humans" by Rands was one of my favorite books as a new engineering manager, so seeing this is a bummer. If you're using genAI to build your next book and are rage-quitting over watermarks, that means you're hiding your AI usage from your audience. randsinrepose.com/archives/rip...

RIP Claude

I've used Claude quite a bit for both the upcoming new book and the next edition of Managing Humans. I wrote the entire book, but, as I've done for years, I've

Finished game 5 of "Clank! Legacy 2: Acquisitions Incorporated – Darkest Magic" last night and geez. It really feels like they put all the ideas in this game. But we've finally figured out the strategy for bosses, so that's helpful.

Huh. I can't recall ever getting a solid yellow row before. Neat. Wordle 1,838 5/6 ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜⬜⬜🟨🟨 🟨🟨⬜⬜⬜ 🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

In the middle of reading a book and noticed one chapter near the end was 1.5h compared to the other 20m chapters. Figured that'd be the big climax with lots of action. Nope, it's a brain dump of world building, presumably setting up the second book. Bleh.

Warning for board game folks: this site has a list of industry people that uses AI slop for images and bios. I’m trying to figure out how to reach out to them to ask to have the entry on me removed. Wanted to spread awareness on the slop. www.4pillargames.com/about/

After a free preview, Blink wants me to pay $8/month more for AI descriptions of the video clips from my camera. During the preview, the descriptions were always useless (e.g. "a person is walking in the room") and one time scared my wife (it mistook a shadow for a person.) Who asked for this?

Decided to experiment w/ the AI coding technique "ralph loop" while also toying with an older "Recipe of Theseus" idea. How many substitutions can you make in a recipe before it's no longer the same dish? (Spoiler: It seems like recipes have load-bearing ingredients) jon.camp/software-dev...

Ralph's Chili aka Recipe of Theseus

Combining the Ship of Theseus with the Ralph Loop, I ran an AI agent in a loop substituting one ingredient at a time in a chili recipe until the AI itself …

When I was in college, one of the classes was Windows NT installation and configuration. During installation wizards, our teacher would repeatedly say "Ready everything, accept the defaults" Now that people are vibe coding, it feels very similar. Like AI told me that variable name was good, ship it

Rogue Trader did a really great job of making Ulfar, the Space Marine, feel incredibly tanky next to even my shield-warror. It's rare that a game features an "overpowered" class/species/hero from the lore and they don't end up feeling like a level 1 grunt.

After decades of tech marketing conflating machine learning, LLMs, computer vision and more as "AI" to sell the hype, now those same people are upset when others say "Ban AI". "AI is many things, it's not just genAI!!" You created this confusion for your own benefit. Now you can wallow in it.
