my real one that gets people mad at me is that albums, particularly pop albums, are an artificial commercial contrivance that obscure the actual diffuse profusion of music-making by sticking it in auteurist, collectible, simplistically finite formats, and i'm glad digital freed us from the charade

it all depends on who i'm talking to. most of the time, just because of the volume of middle-aged discourse i'm exposed to, my belief that recorded music is good and important before the 1950s and after the 1990s feels pretty spicy, but if i put it that mildly few will disagree with me.
