I wish you lot would please learn, if you are seeking asylum, you don't need a passport. Asylum seekers can cross any border by any means and that is legal. Further, they do not have to stop at the first safe haven, but may move on across more borders until they choose to request asylum, all legal.

Breaking News: Flávio Bolsonaro, who just lost Brazil’s presidential election, left the country for the U.S. after the Brazilian police asked for his passport because he was being investigated in a money-laundering case. nyti.ms/4A0AfnN

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

After the first round elections, Congressman André Janones created a WhatsApp channel titled “Lula’s Army.” It ballooned to 10 million people following his commands on how to behave online to counteract Meta’s far-right-favouring algorithms. The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too.

"The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too." The fascists know how to troll you. They waste your time, your effort, your energy. They know they can wear you down and drive you from the field. Do NOT engage with trolls. Say, you're a troll - BLOCKED. Then block them. It is the only way.

Yesterday I mentioned to someone the old boardgame Eddie Cantor's "Tell It To The Judge", & his face still jump-scares me every time I look at the board. The game is about getting to the club without acquiring speeding tickets & the caricature is unintentionally sinister.

. @japanesetalk.bsky.social I am interested in how you take physical notes learning JPN. That is, I have one notebook of word lists of nouns, and loose sheets to write kana and practice. Now I want to learn verbs. So do you have advice on physical set up? How are you organised please? How do others?

The book’s characteristic style is short, declarative sentences bare of ornament, conveying much that’s left unsaid. This type of prose, later a cliché of hard-boiled fiction, is revolutionary for its time. Hemingway says he is impressed by Henry James’ observation that WWI had “used up words.”
