European, originally a Brit, became German, moved to France. Runs #CrossBorderRail project, writes a newsletter about railways. Green, lives happily without a car. Normally stuck on a train, stuck in a village, or escaping either on a folding bicycle.

Talgo ist die KI-Version eines Zuges. Von Weitem betrachtet sieht es irgendwie ganz okay aus, aber schaut man näher hin, fallen einem Fehler über Fehler auf.

Most of what we used to rather quaintly call "fake news" was of the negative, destructive nature But there is sort of the opposite The cheery optimistic thing, that nevertheless is still utter guff Sure, a Edinburgh - Paris train would be nice. But the idea is STILL GUFF

This Jason Arday stuff 🤯 He was the facilitator of an excellent event I attended a few years back in Brussels. Eloquent and just a little bit intimidating, and obviously very capable and sharp But the non academic points listed by The Guardian are wild

By now, it seems that #Spain has been very able to manage the crisis, and no other member states were negatively affected in any way. The reactions from Italy & Co. have been truly shameful. This is how you destroy trust and solidarity in the EU.

If the concern is Spain’s capacity to manage an exceptional number of arrivals, there are other ways to respond, including supporting Spain, without restricting free movement across an internal Schengen border.

The complete debasement of the US State Department in one simple chart. The Trump/Rubio State Department presented a graphic to an international conference that mislabeled EVERY African country. It appears that no one is left who can properly name a single African country.

Under a Binface government, anyone who doesn’t accept human-made climate change as fact will be sent back to school, from Year 1 right the way to A Levels, to see if anything goes in the second time round. #VoteBinface

Pondering this Merz situation further His personal ratings are *that* dire, and the annoyance at the botched sacking of Schnieder so widespread within the CDU, could he even be forced out (asked to resign) early? Given the generally sober nature of German politics its odds against, but possible?

Merz looking grumpy

In the end all this Burnham stuff just looks - in a European comparative perspective - so hollow Rig up a process to get him a seat in Parliament The incumbent resigns The Labour parliamentary party anoints Burnham with little debate and no contest All within the rules. But hollow still

This thesis *might* hold The alternative thesis is that by going to Greater Manchester in 2017 he bypassed the main political fights of the past decade, and became PM more because he was somehow both tangible and intangible enough And surviving until now is ambition not ability We‘ll see

Burnham a much stronger polittician at 56, for lots of reasons, including breadth of experience of success + failure (25 years in elected politics: 3-4 on backbench inc pps + 5 in govt + 6 in opposition + 10 as Mayor) than he was at 40 (9 years in elected politics, 5 in govt, for party of governmen)

And another drone shot down over Romania, this morning at 8:30am. Still not great we are shooting them down with missiles from fighter jets but it is rather good that they are now being shot down more consistently! www.reuters.com/world/europe...

Romania says it shot down second drone breaching its airspace

Romania said on Saturday that it had shot down a second drone breaching national airspace in as many days over a sparsely populated area near the border with ‌Ukraine.

This weekend I’m in the Finnish countryside, at a small intellectual festival organised by a friend of mine Charming place. Sharp people. Sun filtering through pines and birches And everyone jaundiced and frustrated by politics, tech, the worst consequences of AI
