The basis for the last sentence below: New data from David Ho's lab showing that while adults & kids have ~equal antibody responses to XFG & NB.1.8.1, children have essentially no neutralizing antibodies to BA.3.2. This seems to solve the BA.3.2 + kids mystery. 1/14 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Ryan Hisner@ryanhisner.bsky.social · 2mo agoMy best guess is dead-end virus evolution combined with a continually broadening global population antibody response that makes it more difficult for novel variants to completely escape—except in those with few exposures (such as children).

Insightful article: Children in the water make noise when they are fine. “When they go quiet, go and find out why!”. They might be drowning. You have 20-60 seconds. Drowning is most often quiet. Also for adults. Shouting or waving often does not occur, as all energy goes into the effort to breath.

I made an overview for BA.3.2* samples in 2026 from Europe. A bit less than half of the sequences came from children and of those around half probably came from babies/children wearing diapers. So, a bit less than a quarter? But of course, sequenced samples are probably not be representative.

Hier een tabel waarin te zien is dat ook in Nederland BA.3.2 een voorkeur lijkt te hebben om kinderen te infecteren. Het is natuurlijk de vraag hoeveel invloed zij hebben op het SC2 niveau in het water. Zeker de luier dragende babies en peuters!

I still checked, just out of curiosity. No way of knowing which WW levels or infection levels these numbers represent. Most children's samples are from babies anyway, so their waist will end up in the bin and not in WW. Jan+Feb 2024, 26/626 JN.1, Nov25-Feb26, 29/175 BA.3.2 samples from children.
