do you think the people who designed AI integration into basic apps realize how just obnoxious some of the AI "tools" are? "do you want me to summarize this email?" the email I just wrote? why? "I can summarize this article!" do you think I don't know how to read

🚨 BREAKING: U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has submitted his resignation to the White House following months of tension with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Reuters reports, citing a source familiar with the matter.

Dr Oz: "If we could just get the average American to feel so healthy, so with it, so vibrant that they want to work just one extra year, that's worth $1 trillion to our GDP every year"

I dunno much about Maness or Anderson but Schlicter is a straight-up fascist who wants to among other things "use the law to ensure blue submission" and "imprison dissenters" to achieve the aim, "force them to be like us."

2021 Schlicter posts:

For too long red state conservatives have offered to live and let live with blue state liberals but the blues are evangelical Marxists who cannot allow us to provide a counter example of freedom. 1/

So, no more. We must, by any means necessary, force them to be like us. No quarter. No compromise. 2/

Ban CRT, Marxism and anti-American misinformation. Nationalize big tech and academia and mandate conservatism as their operational ideology. Ban leftist media and entertainment from spreading misinformation.3

Penalize barren, non-familial lifestyles through taxes and disqualification from political participation. Establish property and military service qualifications for voting. Increase America’s carbon footprint. Ban masks. Dismantle unions.n4/

Use the law to ensure blue submission. Imprison dissenters. Force them to act against their deepest beliefs to keep their jobs. End all social programs and deport all illegals. Outlaw crime again. 5/

EXCLUSIVE: Pentagon secretly installs military influencers in civilian government roles. They include Rob Maness, Kurt Schlicter and Tom Anderson, better known as Cynical Publius. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

I don't think it should be controversial to say, "we will not provide financial or military assistance to a country where the Minister of National Security brags about popping people's dreams of 'food' and 'education' then sending them to a prison where they are starved."

Ben Gvir posted this video on twitter today which shows fat and happy Palestinians on a conveyer built going through the Israeli "prison" (torture camp) system and coming out emaciated and maudlin. This is textbook genocidal content.

I somehow missed who Trump had appointed as science and technology advisors the list explains a lot. "Marc Andreessen Sergey Brin Safra Catz Michael Dell Jacob DeWitte Fred Ehrsam Larry Ellison David Friedberg Jensen Huang John Martinis Bob Mumgaard Lisa Su Mark Zuckerberg"

Since my LGBTQ+ bookshop days, I’ve been told my stumping for trans rights was “performative” or because I “hate women” or because I want “cookies” and it’s all been so frustratingly stupid when it’s really just all about a thread like this. People just need to be happy as we can be ❤️

I'm in the strange position of being grateful for how truly awful my life was pre-transition (and how incredibly well transition worked for me purely as a medical/mental health intervention). Even with everything it's still a miracle, every day, just to be here with all of you.

Gift link to a stunning report: Heads of European Command, Pacific Command, Southern Command, and Navy’s top admiral "responded with...a 'non-concur,' those familiar with the assessment said — meaning they disagree with the secretary’s order to extend their forces but will execute it nevertheless."

Military leaders warn Hegseth against extending Iran war operations

A recent classified assessment advised that prolonged large-scale operations in the Middle East risk weakening U.S. capabilities elsewhere.

Trump's announcement today that he's trying to make it so farmers and ranchers can "process their own food" came directly from Glenn Beck during their interview the other day. So America now has a right-wing shock jock making our agricultural policy. Good times!

Darline Graham said that because her own parents died when she was a kid, people today shouldn't expect "government health care." So I dug up the real story of the death of Darline/Lindsey's parents. It makes a strong case FOR government health care. 1/ (new piece) newrepublic.com/article/2148...

What Darline Graham’s Ugly, Viral Outburst About Death Really Reveals

The senator’s parents died when she was a kid. That’s tragic. But it’s also tragic that she’s against the kind of care that could help untold numbers of people avoid that fate today.

Photographed with pristine clarity by Atsushi Nakamura (Studio KJ), this exceptional metal obidome (sash clip) by the master metal engraver Mitsuharu Katsura (1871–1962) represents a triumph of 20th-century Japanese chōkoku (metal carving and chasing).

Depicting a red-crowned crane (tanchōzuru) frozen in graceful, horizontal flight, the piece transforms a timeless motif of longevity, auspicious fortune, and marital fidelity into a dynamic, wearable sculpture designed to anchor the central obijime cord across the front of a formal kimono sash.

The work showcases Katsura’s masterly command of traditional Japanese irogane (colored metal alloys) and specialized chiseling techniques (tagane-bori). The torso and sweeping, layered wings are sculpted from silver or shibuichi (a silver-copper alloy), painstakingly carved using microscopic line-engraving (kebori) and relief chiseling to articulate the soft texture of individual feather barbules. To create dramatic tonal contrast without relying on applied pigments or enamel, Katsura integrates shakudō—a proprietary copper-gold alloy patinated via a traditional chemical bath (rokushō) to yield a deep, velvety blue-black finish—for the dark trailing tail plumage and throat lining. The beak, eye, and slender, outstretched legs are highlighted in warm gold inlay (kin-zōgan), while the crown of the head features a textured red accent reproducing the crane's signature crimson cap.

Aesthetically, the horizontal elongation of the bird’s swept-back wings provides an ideal architectural balance for its functional placement on the obi, allowing the fluid, organic silhouette of the crane to rest comfortably against the flat plane of woven silk. Historically, works of this caliber reflect the creative pivot following the 1876 Haitōrei (sword abolition edict), which compelled master sword-fitting metalsmiths (kodogu-shi) to rechannel their generational knowledge of alloys and chasing into civilian jewelry.

Food companies wanted deregulation. Now there are dozens of recalls across the country. Mining companies wanted deregulation. Now the black lung rate is at a 45-year high. Financial companies wanted deregulation. Now financial losses to fraud are the highest on record. Noticing a pattern?

I'd like to thank Michael Cohen for personally ending any trust Americans have in the future to any person who turns against Trump. It's only temporary, folks. As soon as they see anything good in it for them, they'll weasel back. www.politico.com/news/2026/08...

Important to note that what got Hegseth angry wasn't anything "woke" but reporting that highlighted issues like housing affordability around military bases. In other words, Stars and Stripes has been genuinely serving the troops, and the Trump administration won't allow that.

Unspeakably disgraceful. Doris Miller was a mess attendant -- the only jobs open to Black sailors -- who won the Navy Cross at Pearl Harbor. With this, and reports USN leaders are considering changing the design of aircraft carriers *because Trump said so* -- the Navy is dishonoring itself.
