It looks like everyone's agreeing with this. I haven't decided yet, personally, but for many products there isn't really an expensive, long-lasting option, but instead your purchase options are cheap-and-disposable, or expensive-and-disposable-with-a-touchscreen (or AI, or a fancy label, etc.)

And it turns out that what people really want is cheap disposable goods, not more expensive but higher quality stuff that lasts a long time.

People love fictional villains who are psychologically complex or sympathetic, but real life villains are just selfish assholes who enjoy - or at best, don't mind - hurting people.

It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.
This feels grimly accurate. I think for most people, engagement with the party feels like getting on Temu’s mailing list: Just a neverending stream of spam asking for cash and no other meaningful call to be part of anything that might generate any sense of identity or community.
Feild@feild.work · 2w agoThere's nothing to "join" in the Democratic Party. It's a brand with products I spend my vote on once a year at the democracy store. Most people's experience of it is an endless stream of texts that read like scams, their reward for donating or signing a petition. No wonder DSA is growing
