media when maga wins an election: we must travel the country and speak to these voters and extend empathy to them and give credence to their bigotry and false beliefs media when the left wins an election: is this the end of the american experiment

back in grad school, I remember them pulling me into the financial aid office to ask me about sending too much money back home. that was over a decade ago. and I just didn’t get the message. I couldn’t receive it. I felt like it was my responsibility to do it and they just didn’t get it.

I really don’t know how to dig myself out of this hole. it puts a lot of pressure on all the work I do now. I’ve had this relationship with my family for so long where I give and expect nothing in return. and they’ve gotten very comfortable with that. it’s my fault for not standing up for myself.

A little more about what I mean here: it is purely interested in answers and not what those answers mean for its characters and how they move through the world. Mostly it is written to assure you its characters have modern liberal politics in a world incompatible with those politics.

Fountain pen enthusiasts, please send me all your recs, links, and tips! My fingers are inkstained. My soul is fixed. My heart is happy. I'd planned to head over to Atlas Stationers while in Chicago for ALA, but never made it. Tempted to preorder for Inkvent, but I'm brand new to this category.

My favorite part of the screening was overhearing a discussion between two Gen-X lesbians on the way out. "I enjoyed its raucous explicit spirit but he no longer has the je ne sais quoi that he did in the 90s" "susan, none of us have the je ne sais quoi of the 90s anymore"

I enjoyed Gregg Araki's I WANT YOUR SEX primarily because it was amusing to go to the mall & see Olivia Wilde lube up a big pink dildo and stick it in Cooper Hoffman's ass.

This goes back to my post several months ago where a lot of older dems still think the Oslo accords can be resurrected once Netanyahu is out of office because they (wrongly) think there's another Rabin waiting in the wings to put Israel "on the right track". 90's nostalgia strikes again.

I mean this sincerely: I think pro Israel people really need to begin internalizing that this is not a fringe opinion anymore and in fact is very statistically likely to be the average view of any brown Democratic candidate for office or any candidate under the age of 50

Just now on @Morning_Joe:
@AbdulElSayed was asked by @WillieGeist whether his critique of Israel is about @netanyahu or Israel itself. He made it clear his problem is with Israel. Lots of references to
"apartheid" and "genocide" that
"pre-date" BiBi.

Dying at the right-wing activists that (1) held a call with Todd Blanche in which Blanche made a lot of anti-abortion promises, (2) said "uh this is off the record" like doing so would magically ward off journalists, and then (3) UPLOADED IT TO THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL www.politico.com/news/2026/08...

The acting attorney general’s conversation with Trump appears to have taken place just hours after the president publicly mused about pulling Blanche’s nomination and instead trying to push through a fund that could be used to compensate Jan. 6 rioters and others who claim to have been persecuted by the Biden administration.
Announcements at the beginning and end of the Intercessors for America call stated that it was “not intended for press purposes.” A speaker told attendees that the call was “not on the record” and directed any journalists on the line to hang up.
POLITICO was not on the call on Thursday when it took place and did not agree to any limits on reporting. Audio of the session was posted on YouTube by Intercessors for America, which calls itself “the largest national prayer ministry dedicated to praying for our government and leaders.”
As of Monday, the recording remained publicly accessible.

It was all supposed to snap back to normal after elections in 2019, then 2024. But the politics they created are so insane - so utterly divorced from reality, requiring so much effort just to keep the bullshit straight in their heads - that it has created a new, awesomely horrible and scary normal.

I don’t blame the public for this: most people will be looking at this slack jawed wondering what the fuck is going on. And the answer is: the British media/political class has driven itself insane trying to reconcile a decade of its own nonsensical, contradictory, idiotic bullshit.

I understand why Luciana and others are unable to forgive Joshua, I do.
My Catholicism says I should forgive if put in a similar position, but none of us can say how we would feel if we were so cruelly targeted - especially while pregnant.
I don't think people who have committed atrocious acts should get a free pass in life.
However, I do think extremism is such a scourge in society that those who have dedicated themselves to trying to counter it should be able to earn a hearing.
If the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism can note his contribution, then I do think it is a shame that the Board of Deputies have decided not to meet him. I would hope that a young man who has renounced anti-semitism and now actively fights against it is exactly the kind of person they would engage with.In my view if we are going to properly address anti-semitism, I want people on our side who take it seriously and I want there to be a way back for people who have been radicalised to serve our country again if they have provably renounced their past.
1 am afraid it is completely inconsistent for Reform to argue for a return to Christian values, but then argue against redemption for young people like Joshua or George Abaraonye, who I also defended despite saying something grotesque and being in no way a Conservative.
And I have even less time for the Labour figures who were quite happy to serve Corbyn whilst anti-semitism ran rife, who have championed an Islamophobia definition criticised by counter-terrorism experts, and who only now decide to speak up for the Jewish community.
But my main hope is that Joshua's last few years educating people against extremism turns into many decades more, and that he can stop others from following the appalling path that he did.

I hope folks understand he stands behind him *because* of the Bible and their Christian fundamentalism. They think it says in the Bible that the woman’s job is to help bring men closer to god. Which means that in actuality, it is the abused wife that is at fault. She didn’t pray/evangelize-

Mike Johnson tells Politico that he's standing behind Republican Max Miller — despite the "serious" domestic abuse allegations against him.

That Sex Purge movie was only going to work as a 1988 thing written by Julie Brown where due to a cosmic ray men and women can't be in the same space without setting off a deadly chain reaction save for one night a year. And it's so bouncy and full of DEVO songs there's no space to think too hard.

gf: hey how as work me: Masturbation is legal and it is implied that gay sex successfully operates outside of the mandate. There are multiple anti-mandate signs and events shown throughout the movie.
