Ageing trajectories are grouped into four clusters: Stable Young (blue), Delayed Ageing (light orange), Accelerated Ageing (dark orange), and Old & Ageing (dark purple). Sequence plots explain the classification. In these plots, colour hue indicates the level of ageing (blue = younger, orange = intermediate, purple = older populations), while shading indicates the pace of ageing (light = de-ageing, medium = slow ageing, dark = fast ageing).

The map shows clear spatial variation in ageing trajectories. Municipalities around Stockholm are predominantly classified as Stable Young, while many municipalities in northern Sweden fall into the Accelerated Ageing or Old & Ageing clusters. Southern Sweden contains a mix of Delayed and Accelerated Ageing trajectories.

A bar chart compares the four ageing clusters with conventional urban–rural categories. While large cities are predominantly Stable Young and rural municipalities are more often Old & Ageing, medium-sized and small cities are distributed across all four clusters. This highlights substantial variation within the urban–rural spectrum and suggests that regional ageing patterns cannot be fully understood through a simple urban–rural divide.

From the days of typewriter prepared manuscripts to the LLMing of today's vibey journal submissions one constant remained: Double Spacing ! and All Figures Placed at the End ! Some changes are too disruptive to allow.

This is so cool. This atlas has Lexis plots on how various things have changed over time in different age groups – mortality rates, fertility rates, number of parents and siblings. And you can reach out to Jonas to add your own plots too. I'd like to see Lexis plots for absolutely everything.

Speaking as a demographer, the individualization of aggregate relationships is both impossible to resist in public discourse and an ongoing massive misrepresentation of research. It's not well known at all, how badly individual behavior is predicted using statistical regularities.

With @remyfurrer.bsky.social, a new piece in Nature Human Behavior. The standard description of a polygenic score as a "genetic predisposition" essentializes a statistical construct. It's not language policing: PGS are a new kind of entity; now is the time to think carefully about what they are.

I was just asked about reproducibility issues in demography and healthy life expectancy came to mind.

What is the main reason for premature male mortality in Mexico? @ikashnitsky.phd and Aburto answered this question in 2019 for every Mexican state, every year since 1990 and all ages from 15 to 50. Their rich results are available on demoscapes. demoscapes.org/collections/...
