If one of the primary functions of the press is to check power, it really feels like much of the mainstream media ecosystem is fundamentally broken. Worse, as of now I see no institutions capable of stepping in as a viable, preferable alternative.

The Chicago-Kent community was nothing but generous and kind in helping me grow as a teacher and scholar. I owe more than I can repay to so many colleagues and mentors there. I don't know who has been directly affected by these layoffs, but it's an absolute tragedy regardless.
