It’s that JSR

Generic Gen-X Nerd. I do post here, but it's very much a subset of my posts to Mastodon, as I have zero confidence in VC-backed corporate social media. Various links at https://jsr.com mastodon: jsr@social.jsr.com

A new season of Ted Lasso is out. I haven't seen it yet, but it's mere presence reminds me of how dirty they did the character of Keeley in the last season, and how annoyed I was about it.

Mental hospital cannot stop me. Government cannot stop me. I will simply continue to Play 80s Post-Punk Music Loudly As Soon As My Family Leaves The House until the end of my days.

Sounds like the fans in my gaming PC have some bearing issues. Given that fans are cheap, and (thanks to LLM bollocks) every major part of my gaming rig that is anything other than a fan now costs the same as a used car, perhaps I should just pre-emptively replace all the fans.

I am watching The Killings At Parrish Station and I would like whoever made it to know that I also really liked season one of Fargo.

GREG DAVIES: seems like a kind of a shit task. Everyone just seems like they're going home normally. ALEX HORNE: well before you say that let's have a look at how Odysseus did. cut to panel of AJAX, MENELAUS, AGAMEMNON, and DIOMEDES who are all staring at ODYSSEUS with his head in his hands

When I was making my lunch today, I gave our new cat Maple a small taste of butter, and based on her reaction I think she would definitely very much like to live deliciously.

People ask what excites me and it's hard to say a mixture of Nancy Downs smiling after saying "We are the weirdos, mister.", Paz Lenchantin putting her hair up in the music video for "Judith", and that scene in Alien where Sigourney Weaver is getting into a spacesuit, so I just tell them "Redheads."

One of the valuable family services @jsr.com provides is that if something happens on the Internet and I don’t have time to figure it out I can say “hey babe, what’s up with the goose?” and I will be Enlightened.

Me at the A24 board meeting: We’ve got a brand beloved by young hip people and cinefiles, basically synonymous with “good taste” and “artistic vision,” in a time where both are hard to come by. What if we flushed that in the fucking toilet for a bit of money?

A24 is collaborating with Google DeepMind as AI companies are deepening their ties to Hollywood—and struggling with a crisis of taste. We asked the studio about the backlash: www.wired.com/story/a24-kn...

Watching the livestream of Isaac's funeral, as I am too unwell to attend in person, and it was a lovely service. I said it before, I'll say it again, Isaac was very cool, he died very young, and (if you will forgive the vernacular, as Isaac would) the fact that he is gone Absolutely Fuckin' Sucks.

Sometimes my lower back hurts in a way that I can only briefly offset by walking around in a spine-arched, shoulders-back, chest out posture that is basically that of a comedy 1970s sergeant-major. I have to resist the urge to yell "SAH!" and "Move yourself, move yourself, MOVE YOURSELF!"

I found out today that an old friend died. I didn't even know he was sick. I'm aware that we're all getting old, but still, I'd like all my old goth mates to stop fucking dying, please. RIP Isaac. You were acerbic and hilarious when I saw you were at a party, I knew it was going to be a good party.

Telling my son why old songs mean something to me, but it's so contextual. I can't explain that I'm at a club with a young lady I shouldn't have been there with, and I'm drunk and can feel the bass bins in my SOUL... whereas all he's hearing is a woman repeating something in french over a nice beat.

I used to wonder why old people did such strange shit. Now that I'm old, I see that some of it is emergent and uncontrollable. I just drank a glass of cold water, and found that I had firmly closed one eye while doing so. My body just went "Oh, drinkin'? Time to squint like a grizzled sea captain."

Nvidia guy wears a weird leather jacket, Visa guy wears a suit jacket over a t-shirt and jeans, the Space-X dipshit wears a suit that he doesn't realise emphasises (rather than conceals) his ever-growing belly. I'm not sure why these CEO's are wearing my fits from the 1990's, but I don't like it.

I am having a particularly terrible brain day today. Just overwhelmingly sad. Miss my deceased parents. Miss various deceased cats. Miss the level of health and ability I used to have. I have a minor medical appointment later today, must try to keep it together until at least after that.

Anthropic: “Mythos is just straight up TOO ADVANCED and DANGEROUS to be released to the general public, we MEAN IT and this is NOT JUST MARKETING.” [One (1) news cycle passes] Anthropic: “Mythos is now available to the general public.”

When I deleted my Meta accounts, I gave away my Quest VR headset, and I have zero regrets. I have missed those VR experiences, so I will likely splurge on a Steam Frame. A primary reason for this is that Valve are not publicly being (or supporting) Nazis. www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/06/stea...
