So this is an impressive high schooler paper that understands basic queuing theory results like Little's Law, but I'm mostly impressed at this being written by someone who wasn't even born when Rollercoaster Tycoon came out on PC.

This is one of those weird little details that undercuts the loss in life from inbreeding, actually! Although cancer risk and such is bad for some breeds (Frenchies are still an abomination fighting against physics of oxygen intake), overall lifespan is still getting better for American pets.

So uhhh I might have mentioned this a few times before, but I'm now in the drafting phases of an EKy LGBTQ+ campground business plan, where the emphasis is on energy efficiency (think RV carport solar for residents) and educational offerings...
Just had the realization that, where, historically, pot was the problem for clearance in federal jobs, we're on track for fucking gambling debt to be the most common clearance issue.
Part of me kind of hates that "flynning" is derogatory in fencing circles, but it's no worse than a stage punch is in kayfabe. It's not meant to be real danger because it's Hollywood magic!

Underappreciated AI slop bullshit: instruction manuals are all useless garbage. Dealing with a pool pump and it's Google translate ducking bullshit and impossible to diagnose.

The other thing is that, at least with the tales I'm familiar with, the trickster archetype for women is usually a matter of self-preservation or self-defense. I am entirely open to women's wrongs as a trickster archetype, but haven't really seen it beyond like "predatory spirit uses feminine wiles"
Owl's Eyes Ty@jtsdmpk.bsky.social · 3d agoI will say the trickster archetype is slippery at times, sometimes he gets his comeuppance (coyote's tail), sometimes the "lesson" is that he's an asshole but the authorities are rubes (because women aren't afforded the maliciousness of a Renard)...
This may dramatically slow down the attacks on science. It also provides a template for how to prevent the federal government from becoming a patronage state. It’s a big deal!

Huh. Ezra Klein kicking off way too many people talking about the trickster archetype was not on my bingo card for today.
I already knew the indicator/fodder/definition breakdown for cryptic clues (for all but double-definitions and another type or two), but only recently learned that in the standard i/f/d style, the definition is always either first or last, and that's helped a lot lately.
This (the end of another thread on YA media) reminds me I need to do my once every 5-ish years re-read of Tollbooth. The wordplay and gags in it are just top notch, and it's as much a comfort read as Pratchett and Adams for that alone.
