Same with job applications. Rich kids with social capital always got help, now AI is eroding that privilege and employers are having a fit that applications are not wholly written by applicants. They never were, that’s the point.

Biggest impact of AI on college admissions is helping poor kids write like rich kids with consultants. But there's a catch: the elite schools already stereotyped them as bad writers, so poor kids get rejected for suspected AI use while rich kids get admitted. arxiv.org/abs/2602.17791

These are all measures of lexical diversity, like average word length, type–token ratio (TTR), Maas TTR, MTLD, HDD, Yule's K, and a complexity measure of 1 - FleschReadingEase. The whole pool shifted dramatically in 2024, indicating widespread use of LLMs by both lower- and higher-SES applicants.
