This is a short time-lapse test of the preparations for capturing the August 12 eclipse. First, I tested the orientation of the equatorial mount during the day to avoid seeing the Earth's rotation reflected in the solar disk. Then, I stabilized the video. We have had extremely anomalous high temperatures, not explained by the climate warming of last decades, since 2022 in NW Mediterranean. Look, now in the 2026 we have a similar situation as 2022... Extremely high sea surface temperature in May... May..be boiled? 🌊

Two of my old images of the Orion Nebula (M42), taken with different devices. On the left is a photo taken with a Google Pixel 7 Pro in #astrophotography mode (4 minutes of stacking), and on the right is a photo taken with a Seestar S50 (50 minutes of stacking). Curious fact in ALT description.

Complex organic molecules have been detected in M42. If you could fly through it and take a sniff, it might smell like sulfur (rotten eggs) mixed with sweet-smelling hydrocarbons (similar to a charcoal grill or hot metal).

Capturing the full Markarian's Chain with my Seestar S50 took two nights. While it's not the best photo, I had to combine a mosaic from the first night, which was composed of almost five hours of 30-second images, with a single capture of over six hours of 30-second images. This meant that I had to deal with the different noise levels from both sessions. Siril + Graxpert + Naztronomy. Final composition in Gimp and Google PhotosMain objects as detected by https://astrometry.net I created the 3D diagram showing the relative distances between all the galaxies in the chain using Galaxy Visualizer, a Python project I'm developing.

The second part of yesterday's offering. Simpke stacking of more than six hours imaged. Now I'm trying to stack both (yesterday & today's images) at the same time with Siril. It's tricky because the composition is L-shaped and background and border noise is not easy to mitigate... #astrophotography

The spring is about to start with 2 cloud free nights and I'll try to capture the #Markarian Chain. Today the first part: 4.8 hours images stacked by #Seestar S50 and adjusted with google photos by the phone. It is located at a distance of about 50 to 60 million ly (15-18) megaparsecs (Mpc).

The Markarian's Chain is a striking alignment of galaxies located within the heart of the Virgo Cluster. Named after astrophysicist Benjamin Markarian, it consists of at least eight galaxies, including the prominent M84, M86, and the interacting pair known as "The Eyes." While they appear as a curved line from Earth, most are physically linked by gravity and move together through space.

The Triangulum Galaxy (M33) lies about 3 million light-years away, seen as it was when early humans in Ethiopia began using stone tools. 2 hours 40 minutes of images processed in Seestar S50 using their AI enhancement, with final edits in Google Photos on mobile. #astrophoto 🔭🧪
