I failed to meet my 2025 fitness goals because the physical stress of last summer’s heat waves aged my body. I suffered through it, I wasn’t trying to prove something, I was poor. This year I have an a/c unit because I want to live a while longer. Please get yourself someplace you can be cool.

I maintain that we’re talking about Christianites plural. The Christian community was multicultural and polyglot from the first generation, emerging from an occupied backwater, spreading across the empire, and taking root in existing cultures whose habits of interpretation gave its emissaries grief

A huge issue for the populist right in adopting Christianity so heavily as a identity marker against Muslims, is that the core theology of Christianity very explicitly rejects their ideas.

there is a strain of lefty discourse where you can’t come to any unflattering conclusions about the populace—those must be explained away by how they are being acted upon by capital—but I think you’ll understand things better if you understand capital can also exploit weaknesses it didn’t create

Someone in my LI network posted this consultancy report that Waymo (assumedly) commissioned. I say “assumedly” because the analysis and conclusions are truly crazy. It’s a good look into how consent is being manufactured for Waymo’s operations in Portland. www.tellagence.ai/pulse-feed/w...

Sort of neat to think about how in 20 years I could become a religious studies professor in the university system we’re rebuilding from scratch after the wars end and the oceans have reshaped the continents

Now I'm less Angry on the Internet I do think that part of what's happening is that people are not actually used to a healthy political culture wherein you do a pilot scheme to see if something works and discuss its comparative merits. They're used to excuses for inaction and bad faith quibbling.

But a rabidly anti-intellectual culture wherein asking about whether a proposed means is the best way to achieve social ends is... well it would destroy socialism, utterly. In fact I think the failure of previous socialist states are not unrelated to developing this exact culture.
