An update on Friend: Did not see him today. Put some food out and something at least had some. Will check again in the morning. Low-Cost clinic called back and if I can get him, they can neuter him Monday.

He is an intact male, so I don't want him inside aggressive with our girls even though they are fixed, but I cannot in good conscience just leave him in the alley. He has our winter shelter for now.

But it’s all braided with several poisonous strains of thinking that have cast a shadow over my life and, in many ways, my whole generation. This is my attempt to reckon with that legacy.
