Checking in on Granville pedestrian pilot. Very different feel compared to usual. Demonstrating promise - I think a long term key will be fostering many more establishments with patios, and an evolution of the retail offerings. Programming by @downtownvan.bsky.social is very nice.
One of the reasons my family and I were open to leaving Calgary was the increasingly poor air quality since 2016 or so. That city is “downwind” very often of fires north, west and southwest. Already short summers became more and more unliveable. Truly grim and obvious impact of climate change.
Celebrating Vancouver’s retiring Fire Chief Karen Fry. I will miss Karen, she’s an incredible colleague and a great leader.

Led by the great team in Development, Buildings & Licensing, supported closely by Vancouver Fire Rescue Service; and Planning this will be transformative for low-rise apartments

This week I’ve started advising the very impressive @downtownvan.bsky.social leadership team planning the 7 week extension directed by City Council last Thursday. Challenging!

Cape Verde's national team returned to Praia to a homecoming parade after a historic World Cup run that ended in a 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the Round of 32.
I am biased, but I think Vancouver has the best fan experience of anywhere hosting World Cup. Helps to be one of the great multicultural cities.

This is cool. Shows Vancouver has the highest number and proportion of the metro’s population within 1 hr transit ride to its World Cup Stadium of any host.

Granville pedestrianization for World Cup seems so far to be hugely popular and successful. You could say it’s a test run toward the future. Our recently adopted Granville Street Plan lays out a fully pedestrian vision.

Over 1700 attendees for this exhibit / engagement. It’s among the first steps in the Higher Building Policy review and there will be further opportunities to come to engage with the team and this process.

Kudos to Vancouver Planning Staff, great session at top of Harbour Centre (and views!) with lots of creative ways to get informed & engage on the new Higher Buildings Policy Review. I oversaw the last review & I’m open to more tall buildings OUTSIDE protected view corridors, in SMART STRATEGIC ways.
