Three new evolutionary ecology PhD positions are open in Switzerland (Eawag, and Uni. Bern) to work on Greenland lake ecosystems. We are interested in how stickleback and copepods evolve, and how their evolution affects the trajectories of lake ecosystem development. apply.refline.ch/673277/1403/...

After a record number of applications to the most recent Call for proposals, we have given a boost of over €210 million to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. Now more than 700 additional researchers will be able to build their career in Europe.

Text on a blue background reads, ‘€210 million boost for 700+ researchers.’ Abstract lavender molecular shapes appear at the top and bottom of the image. The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions logo is above the text, and the EC logo is in the top-right corner.

Petit plancton, petits poissons ?

For the next five years, I'll chase these questions with a team (a PhD student, a postdoc, and a technician) at the School of Ocean and Earth Science, @University of Southampton, supported by this ~€2 million ERC Starting Grant. I look forward to starting the project in 2027. Watch this space!

Western Europe had its hottest June on record.🔥 Intense heatwaves broke temperature records, with peaks up to 9°C above average in France and Germany, according to Copernicus data. Only Cyprus and Malta had normal temperatures. Climate change is here and we are feeling its effects

Map of Europe showing average surface air temperature anomalies for 18–30 June 2026 compared with the 1991–2020 average. Large areas of Western and Central Europe, particularly France, Germany, Benelux, northern Italy and surrounding regions, are shaded dark red, indicating temperatures up to 9°C above average. Lighter orange and yellow shades show smaller positive anomalies across much of the rest of Europe. A colour scale at the bottom ranges from -9°C (dark blue) to +9°C (dark red). The map includes Copernicus Climate Change Service and European Union logos.
