I urge you to pay attention to Kansas's election on Tuesday, when voters will decide whether to abolish the state's nonpartisan nominating commission for Kansas Supreme Court justices, and allow lawmakers to institute partisan supreme court elections instead. This proposal is...not what it seems.

The Push to Elect Kansas Supreme Court Justices Is a Cynical Anti-Abortion Power Grab

In 2022, Kansas voters overwhelmingly rejected the GOP’s anti-abortion agenda. Four years later, state lawmakers are trying “another path.”

Elon Musk dumped $25 million into a state Supreme Court race here in Wisconsin last year and it turned the race into a referendum on Elon Musk and his attempt to buy the election. The result was a 10 point loss for his candidate in a very purple state (that had just voted for Trump)

Elon Musk will be spending $100 million to $120 million in at least eight states to help elect Republicans in November, according to The New York Times. But Musk’s money shouldn’t be viewed as a problem. It’s an opportunity. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/the-stink-of-musk

Matisse reworked Bathers by a River over three campaigns from 1909 to 1917, and you can read the war-ravaged decade in its layers. Conceived for Shchukin but never commissioned, this severe masterpiece abstracts four figures into bands of gray, black, and green.

This NYT article is just awful. We should judge Fauci based on his work, not his innermost musings to a diary he never intended to become public. Who cares that he enjoyed the admiration of celebrities? There's zero evidence here that it interfered with his job! www.nytimes.com/2026/07/28/u...

Glick & Lozada's careful takedown of zombie welfare economics is playing a big role in my current thinking on price discrimination (in which talk of "surplus" is all over the place, even in cutting-edge I/O, without any acknowledgement of the problems with the concept)

Van Gogh’s Fishing Boats on the Beach at Saintes-Maries (1888) shows boats stacked like blocks of color—sails, sand, and sea reduced to rhythmic bands, a harmony of form echoing Japanese prints.
