Feels like we should have some way of stipulating, in political arguments, that being poor really sucks and makes pretty much every aspect of life harder. We shouldn't have to reinvent and debate that specific wheel every time.

I don’t think there’s a progressive / left-wing mandate in the Democratic Party at this point but I do think it’s fair to ask what conditions would lead “neutral” commentators to say Ds need to tack left, given all electoral outcomes are typically taken as evidence of a need to move to the center.

Looks like a 10-15 point polling miss in Michigan regardless of who wins. And people have been writing a lot of electability takes using this data. It’s dangerous out there folks be safe

“I can’t give anyone a view into my heart and mind but I can split some meaningless platitudes that say nothing about my views”. All we can do is judge people by their actions, and we can look at what’s happened at CBS News to see clearly that Ellison is full of shit.

Unfortunately, I can't give anyone a view into my heart and mind, but I can share this: I have regularly voted for candidates of both parties; I hold some views that would be called conservative and others that would be called liberal, just like most Americans; and when it comes to our news operations, I do not aspire to lead these companies to bend their newsrooms to my views. I believe that news should be based on facts and truth.

Genuinely a choice to give the son of a billionaire column space to argue for him to further consolidate the media, especially given the pretty abysmal track record of on journalism he has already implemented at CBS

Feels to me that a lot of people want to get way too cute about this. Yes, there’s a lot of awful history in the US. But do they really want to argue that repeal of birthright citizenship or various attempts to deport millions of people wouldn’t represent a dramatic break from previous conditions?!?

It's not a fever dream, it was the bedrock of the US

A lot of the MAGA crowd wants the US to essentially become like the UAE, where there's an enormous foreign workforce who have substantially fewer rights than citizens and are subject to awful working conditions. It's a fever dream, but it's their fever dream.
