Debt is a powerful instrument, like nuclear power. It can be used to good ends (allowing people to get an education or buy a house) or bad. I hate when people blame capitalism for something that has nothing to do with it.
An acquaintance is being sexually harassed at this job. I see him about once a week and ask how it’s going. Today he confessed, he can’t afford to leave because of his student loans. The point of debt at a national level, at an indivisible level, is docility. It’s capital’s greatest asset.
Elie reeling as he and Thomas agree on something
HHoly Shit: Clarence Thomas just said "I always thought it was twenty four seven sports, but two four seven sports, fine." THOMAS CLERKS: SINCE YOU'RE READING THIS IN REAL TIME, HAVE HIM TELL CONGRESS TO UPDATE THIS LAW!!!
I'm starting to think you people don't know what a 'mildly worded letter' looks like because this is not mild.
If @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social had shown, in his entire career, even a tenth of the courage and care @ilhanmn.bsky.social shows every single day, I’d have more hope for this party and this country. Instead we have a corporate-padded coward writing mildly worded letters as we drive off a cliff.
Could not ask for a better distillation of the AI mindset. Who cares about what the words mean as long as they look right?
Who cares about deepness of the words, if they can understand language and solve problems?
AI people lose their minds if you refuse to drink the kool-aid. They don't act like people with any other tool - ok, it's been good for me, but if you don't like it, I understand. It's like their worldview depends on you accepting that this is necessary to survival nowadays.
I guess some people have never used them - but at the very least it's like a Google search on steroids. If you can't see how that's incredibly helpful I don't know how I can help you.
It's so telling that the 'causes' of Oct 7th to these people never includes Israel's complete blockade of Gaza...
No I'm sorry. The cultural influence of blackface and minstrel shows is vast, but those things were harmful because they were *much more* than just white people singing songs by black people. Blackface was harmful because it put the vast cultural world of oppressed people in a box to mock them.
It sucks! There’s no way around it! Knowing this, if I sing along to Aretha Franklin, what am I doing? When my mom’s church sings a Thomas Dorsey hymn, what are they doing? Doesn’t it carry that same taint of musical blackface?
My feelings on this are relatively straightforward: if you lie about the arguments people are making to direct harassment and anger their direction, you're a psychopath.
my feelings on this are pretty straightforward: if you have a problem with poor people having greater access to less expensive food then you’re a fucking psycho.
If you think this way you have no business discussing public policy.
We dodged a bullet with Kat. Imagine someone in elected office who thinks that answering basic questions like 'what is thr goal of this program' and 'is this an effective way to achieve that goal' are beneath her.
I have never seen someone so flummoxed by the concept of feeding people lmao
A remarkable honest and revealing comment: Will Stancil is someone I don't like, therefore telling lies about him is ok. If 90% of his haters were this honest, I would consider it real progress.
Rod Torfelson's Armada Featuring Herman Menderchuck have pulled out of the Freedom 250 concert.
This is why 'vibsession' discourse matters. When the next recession comes along, we want politicians to choose the 2020 response and not 2008. Leftists claim to want the 2020 response, but are far angrier about the 2020 outcome than 2008.
In 2008, fiscal/monetary stimulus was way too low. We had a decade of high unemployment and stagnant wages - especially for low income folks. In 2020, we passed big spending bills to keep people afloat. Employment and real wages grew very quickly (but we also had high inflation).
Hi Ben, since you post about me every day and email me unsolicited even after I told you to stop, lets play a game. Every time you tweet about me, I donate $10 to a trans org. Let's call it the Benjamin Ryan youth transition fund. southernequality.app.neoncrm.com/nx/portal/fo...
This shit is still going on. Ben Ryan obsessively tweets about me nearly every single day. He tweets about the people and posts I repost. He does so often within seconds of me posting because his burner has push alerts for my posts. Then he deletes them weeks later to not look as unhinged.
Photo I took while walking the dog this morning. Freezing rain left a thin coat of ice on the trees, and it's scattering the light from the streetlight behind.
@discordpod.bsky.social ever since a throwaway line in your Van Halen episode, I've been putting together a Playlist that I can only describe as 'Camaro music' - music meant to be blasted while driving a '73 red Camaro. Rules are simple: hard cutoff of 1980, music that makes you want to speed. 1/

Whether or not you’re running for Congress and trying to seem rugged (and you probably should run, because, look who’s out there) what did your grandpas do for a living?
A modern retelling of beauty and the beast, where instead of a fairy cursing a young prince for denying her a place to stay, it's me getting poor customer service at a Motel 6 and throwing acid in an immigrant child's face
Listening to @ifbookspod.bsky.social podcast in Sapiens, and it's not remotely the most important thing in the book, but literally screaming "He thinks Indians got TEA from thr British?"
my paternal great grandparents got off a boat in Newark and were americans from the moment they touched american soil. my only objection to that pattern is that i think we should send a plane to pick up anyone who declares themselves an american.
I recently listened to the first Gentle Giant album on @tarkus1980.bsky.social recommendation (shoutout to @discordpod.bsky.social) After hearing "Alucard" them opening for Black Sabbath makes a lot more sense.
@discordpod.bsky.social I was going through your back catalog recently and decided to give the Gentle Giant 'Octopus' episode a relisten. It inspired me to dive back into their catalog - I forgot how hard these guys could rock! 1/2
