Thinking about when I became obsessed with climate journalism, while crashing out over my kids' horrible asthmatic winter of '24, then found solace in @heatmap.news, @volts.wtf, @billmckibben.bsky.social, @emorwee.bsky.social and more. So maybe all this smoke could bring more people into the fray...

This is a great example of what's called "pluralistic ignorance" -- the phenomenon whereby most people share a particular view, but they *don't think other people share it*. In this case: most people are concerned about climate change but think others aren't.
Over 50% of Americans say climate change is a serious threat; only 10% think their compatriots feel the same
That perception gap on the issue is among the highest in the world, per a new Gallup poll....

You'd never know from US media, captured as it is by deep RW narratives, but the US EPA is -- or at least was -- one of the wonders of the world. Sharp, credible independent science tied to serious regulatory & enforcement authority. China would *kill* for something like it. Trump is destroying it.

Just finished Doppelganger by @naomiaklein.bsky.social. Incredible read that resonated on so many levels.
Jeff Bezos has $222 billion. If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over. And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.
The world energy shock is coming — it will deepen inequality in ways we've seen before. Our new @newstatesman1913.bsky.social piece argues that without urgent government action, the Strait of Hormuz crisis will ripple through our economies and rip apart our societies. Here's why. 1/
December 2025 through February 2026 was the 2nd warmest winter on record for the Contiguous U.S. according to Prism climate data. The widespread record to near record warmth in the west easily outweighed the cool temps in the east. 🔥🔥🔥
Look where so many people falling for the excuse that “it was only locker room talk” has gotten us.
Thanks to the OBBB, Amazon’s tax bill for 2025 is $1.2 billion, down from $9 billion the year before despite a 45% jump in profits.
Amazon's tax bill plunges after GOP tax cuts
The 87 percent drop is largely due to a more generous depreciation break in the 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act.'

As far as I can tell, @billmckibben.bsky.social is the only writer with any real reach who is discussing the liberatory potential of distributed solar power. I'd like that subject to get a lot more air time.

My last story of the year for @heatmap.news is… about my rock band @ekkoastral.bsky.social Our tour this fall profoundly changed my view of the energy transition and climate action I went long and personal about what I now think needs to change

Charlie Kirk's extremism was fossil fueled
Big Oil's money gave Kirk a larger platform to spread baseless climate conspiracy theories—as well as other extremist views.
