*throws grenade* I’m a developmental disability advocate and I basically *have* to argue that having to meet an arbitrary score on some test of some domain of cognition to be worthy of very basic rights is wrong.
One of the most unfortunate consequences for this is that doing research becomes a norm for undergrads in STEM but an exception for undergrads in the humanities. By claiming to “help” students by putting “pedagogy” before “research” we actually do them a disservice by drawing an artificial boundary.
I think it's pretty natural, and I less want to "blame" people and just emphasize this is a bad impulse you should try to avoid giving into I get it, but that doesn't make it good
