There's a new knitting magazine, Purl! Each issue is a deep dive into a particular element of knitting - the 1st issue, entirely reasonably, is about casting on. I wrote an article about stretchy cast-ons & their stretchinesses. Print & digital available here: plytogether.com/products/pur... 🧶

fwiw speaking as a formerly failed sock knitter, if you ever decide to try again, I recommend @kateatherley.bsky.social Custom Sock book. It made socks so much more approachable and satisfying to knit. I’m in the middle of a pair right now.
A nice review of CIRCULAR KNITTING from a librarian. 😊
I was so excited to find this book on my cart of books to be cataloged at work! It’s clear and understandable, and it’s something that will make a difference for knitters. Cute patterns too! I’ve got a hold on one of ours
Hey, so suddenly it's the end of July and my 11th book is now available! CIRCULAR KNITTING FOR BEGINNERS AND BEYOND, a guide for knitters of all levels on the many ways to work in the round. Lots of tips and troubleshooting guidance, plus patterns! kateatherley.com/circular-kni...

Friends! Did you see my new scarf pattern in the latest issue of @knittymag.bsky.social? An introduction to syncopated brioche, it's achievable by even brioche novices. Yes, really! I wrote a tutorial to go with it. knitty.com/ISSUEff26/PA...
Very good observations! I think it's good research and definitely should go ahead, for clarity. Just not sure about the value if there's so many variables uncontrolled for.
I saw this too and had similar thoughts. In terms of experiment design it's like a scoping study to find the best areas to investigate in the main research. In practical terms, more people are likely to take part if they can use what they have without buying anything new. Hope they get enough folk.
Not linking directly to it because I don't want this to be seen as direct criticism. Someone has launched a gauge measurement project, looking to see how much variation there really is in people's gauge. I love this idea! 1/.

Ok, I'm not saying it's the only reason I came to London, but I'm also not NOT saying that. Schiaparelli's Bow Knot Sweater at the V&A. 1927. I talk about this sweater all the time in my colourwork classes. www.vam.ac.uk/exhibitions/...
Knitters & crocheters! Question for you: what's your fave tablet or phone app for row counting/keeping track of your pattern progress? Thank you!
I didn't remember the sexism bit till I listened to the episode, and was like, "You know what, Kim? You are absolutely right. No one would look at a woodworking book and say, 'Don't mention math lest you scare off the dudes!'" THAT is why @kateatherley.bsky.social's book is called MATH FOR KNITTERS.
...and I also managed to call out some math-related sexism in crafts, and pretty much called craft-pattern books boring ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Listen or watch here, or search for The SweetGeorgia Show wherever you get your podcasts!

Happy Canada Day, the bar is so low. 😑
Canada’s a messy country but on this Canada Day I am grateful I live somewhere that has these four basic things that I have benefitted from, directly or indirectly: 1) health care for all paid by taxes 2) strong gun control 3) robust arts grant programs 4) decriminalized abortion

One gets the sense that deposing prime ministers is the only way newspaper editors feel anything anymore.

In the latest issue of @knitty.com I have written a brioche explainer/demystifyer/hand-holder/tips-and-techniques/tutorial column. Even if you're good at brioche you might find a few tips, including a discussion of alternative (and IMHO simpler) charts... knitty.com/ISSUEff26/FE...
