She/her. Everything is more complicated than that. I volunteer with Carl Brandon Society, Clarion West, Otherwise. I walked Hadrian's Wall a few years ago. I read a lot. I sew a lot. I garden a little. My grandchildren are old enough to vote. I digress.

I get to teach at Hugo House again. We'll meet online Thursdays and write and talk about SFFH stuff. So 30 class sessions plus one-on-one talks with me too if you want. Also if you register by 8/30 you get a $100 discount! Member reg is open. Non member reg opens 8/18 hugohouse.org/product/year...

You’ve always wanted to write that story: the one that folds reality in half, rewrites the rules, and asks the question that’s gnawed at you for years. In

I visited Sheila Williams of Asimov’s in July. She is super lucid, makes mobility progress week over week, but, she needs this bridge care paid for, with PT. Her husband needs 24/7 care also. Please donate what you can ( rant about US health care omitted) gofund.me/db5d9b063

He was my instructor. He read part of one of my stories to the class and said, "I wish I had written that." No higher compliment has ever been paid me. Best of travels to you, John Crowley.

They had contracted Blue Angels for 43 years; 43 years The owner says she never received a personal notice that Hegseth was canceling her or any reminder that her contract renewal was coming up This is how the Trump administration treats people, especially Black people

Tales of everyday corruption. Pete Hegseth cancelled the $400,000 contract for making uniforms for the Blue Angels on the grounds that the contract with "The Sewing Box" was DEI since the firm is Black-owned. Instead, he awarded it to a Trump donor for $1,690,000, a 325% price increase!

When I read Little, Big, I knew John Crowley was a great writer, and one who had spent his childhood in the same big library as me. When he taught my Clarion West class in 1992, I knew he was a great teacher, and a kind man. May his memory persist; may his works survive.

In any expedition to Ikea, there is a moment while traversing the maze of twisty little passages all different when my spouse and I begin singing, "We gotta get out of this place if it's the last thing we ever do."

The Trump administration is trying to gut one of the strongest laws protecting tribal sacred sites, burial grounds, and ancestral lands. Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act has worked since 1966. Now a handpicked Council voted to rewrite it..in one week. Here's what at stake.👇

Not to mention that air travel used to involve pretending that the smoke-filled air from the smoking section didn't mix freely with the air in the non-smoking section. Air travel with no smoke is better than air travel with smoke, even though the seats are worse and jammed together.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

Someone get me in a room with MacKenzie Scott’s folks and I’ll deliver my impassioned / well-constructed argument that it’s a moral imperative that she give $20 million to a new distributor specifically for nonprofit and small presses in order to offset her ex’s dismantling of the book industry.
