if I were trying to craft public programs, I'd create a educational games website and blog for kids. the internet is awash in porn and sports betting, but it is also a space dominated by children. there's no reason that public funds couldn't be used to fund online spaces that aren't overtaken by ads

Everyone keeps trying to appease the nazis by being more like the nazis and all that happens is you get more nazis if only there were some sort of historical precedent for understanding this process

Begging you, reporters everywhere: stop using this framing. Anyone anywhere at any time can have an underlying condition. That has only become more true as you decided to join the war on COVID on the side of COVID. People with fallible bodies—all of us—deserve to not shit themselves to death.

Breaking News: Two deaths in Michigan have been linked to cyclospora. Both people who had the parasite also had underlying health issues.

In an era where everyone lies incessantly blatantly and repetitively to achieve their political ends it is revolutionary to refuse to forget, to repeat the truth, to tell the story of what you lived and experienced carefully and accurately

framing one’s AI use in terms of “dopamine” is… well, I’m not quite sure, but it is strange. feels of a piece with the wellness to right wing anti-birth control pipeline and the newly created panopticon of wellness, searching out more and more ultimately meaningless wellness metrics.

the most disgusting thing about teaching children to rely on AI is that most of idea generation is just play in a different format. I have thought of so many games that I play when I want to come up with ideas. in fact, I only had problems coming up with ideas when I felt divorced from play.

What if instead of starting substacks in twenty-fucking-twenty-six people learned to give one iota of a fuck about whether they want to associate themselves with nazis.

I think it also revealed just how quickly a bunch of otherwise very hard problems can be to solve with global collective action. The fuckin Ganga was running clear water for the only time in my lifetime because for 2 weeks nobody threw garbage in it. The canals in Venice had fish.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.
