I got @sxbond.bsky.social's 100 FAQ on Making Comics in the mail today and I love this sticker with the U.S. comics page size. I have this on a post-it note stuck on my monitor, but now it can be more aesthetic.

Hey comics people, The Dark Horse union needs your support right now. Senior editors do more work than most of you can possibly imagine and they deserve to be apart of the union. Some of them have been waiting a long time for this. Stand with them! Please sign and share this petition!

It only took a year, but I finally went through all my clothes. Three bags to donate. I find it odd that I didn't wear a single one of my wool jumpers last winter in Canada. Probably because I never went anywhere and the heating here is better than in Scotland.
I love watching Kaz's long takes on YouTube. So well researched. And I agree with them, Eggers is right. Never was a director more obsessed with historical accuracy.
NEW VID! Since the Werwulf trailer dropped, people have raised concerns about how dirty and grey the middle ages in portrayed in the film. This is a tired trope in film and tv, but in this case... is it actually okay? Did Eggers ACTUALLY do anything wrong? Hear me out! youtu.be/MjC6PpVp2Qo
Delilah is such a real one for this. Any ARMY in Boston need a ticket? (Also Delilah was a guest speaker for that ELVTR editing course and everyone was like, pls be my bff? So I am not surprised at all to know she likes kpop. All the best ppl do!)
I'm gonna be at Thought Bubble for the 20th anniversary!

It's true that @mckelvie.bsky.social and I broke up, but he still has to deal with my kpop fangirling, which today included sending him a picture of a strawberry I said looked like Bang Chan's abs. And then a photo of me licking the Bang Chan's Abs strawberry. He didn't block me. A patient man.
I've got a book coming out from Scholastic next year! GABO provides the art for STREETS OF SHATTERED GLASS: A STORY OF THE HOLOCAUST, a story of 4 kids from different backgrounds finding friendship in turbulent times. For ages 9 and up, it's suitable for schools/educators. In stores August 2027!
I have been listening to my friend Shannon plan an event for evacuees from the Ontario wildfires. She's running it later this week for 3 days and over 900 people are coming. She's arranged events, drumming, beading, sports, childcare, food, donations. I am in awe.
I know it's an ass pain and a slog but Ghost and buttondown exist and are right there and even have tools to help you transfer your old posts and subscribers. Please leave substack.

When I'm looking for artists to hire for comics work, I need to see sequentials, but so few artists post their pages. I know it doesn't get the engagement on socials, but having a link to a portfolio site with pages is so useful (to me).
If you're going to the Edinburgh Festival this year, I highly recommend you check out the website my friend Alan made to help you find, save, and share shows with friends! festies.co.uk It is very useful and he spent nearly no time at all* making it. *Two years, that's nothing, no problem.

I’ve been doing some in-depth reporting on the Prairieland cases, and had to get this out first as I continue to dig: I spoke with Ana Bell, sister of Des, who it turns out co-owns and runs an indie bookstore. We talked about the case, the judge, book banning, ICE killings, and living through this:
My Brother Was Sentenced to 30 Years for Moving a Box of Zines
The sister of a defendant in the Prairieland case, which targeted Texas ICE protesters, speaks out.

A spider is currently making its web across the top of my computer screen. It is so tiny and so cute. Oh, and the Children of Time rpg just launched on Kickstarter. Coincidence? I think not! www.kickstarter.com/projects/gsh...

I recently took the ELVTR Book Editing course with Tom Hoeler (Editorial Director at Random House Worlds) and I may have learned more about editing in those 8 weeks than I have in the last several years combined. It's already improved my work so much. I love learning. It's cool.
I have not cut the lawn in my backyard all summer. There are baby bunnies back there. And fireflies at night. And my cats sit and watch them in the dark. We all do.
Did you hear the news? The kids are calling tramp stamps cake toppers now. I love it so much.
This feels like required reading for anyone working in publishing right now.
AI fraud nearly derailed our next anthology. Today we’re talking about what went down, the things we missed, and publishing the report we wish we’d had when it happened. Read all about it on our new blog, and download the full report:
When I text you 'actual laugh out loud', it's one of the best compliments I can give.
DINNER DATE is a horror rom-com coming out from Ignition Press on Oct 7. It's about a vampire chick who uses online dating apps to hunt for men so she can eat ethically. If you want it, please PRE-ORDER FROM YOUR LOCAL COMIC STORE BY August 31.
Any Ontarians know of an accountant who can help with my taxes as a returning resident? I have contacted about 15 accountants now and either they never reply or they ghost me. Is it me?
You can be shit at drawing and still make great comics, it really doesn't matter. You CANNOT be shit at storytelling. Even if you're an amazing artist, your comics will still suck.
Telling the story clearly* is more important than anything else in drawing comics. *Unless the story calls for confusion on the part of the reader, of course.
HEY LOOK AT THAT the incredibly sexy trailer for our book is out and you should shove it in your eyeballs

You know what's NOT bad though? Kpop. Jesus. Honestly. I LOVE watching beautiful men doing stupid dumb dumb things and then getting on stage and being the hottest boys on the planet. WHAT A JOY.
Every time I encounter 'AI' in my everyday life, it is actively making an experience much worse.
