A coworker asked me to call a customer with our research results. It was clear AI--many words, no meaning. I took it to the boss, who threw the AI results away and spent half an hour of valuable boss time doing the research. How did this save us time? #AI

I have c.64 books beside me--sources for a NF bk. It's hard to organize/coordinate all of it properly. I haven't used AI. If I hadn't struggled through it, I wouldn't understand the topic w the depth I do now. I hope it shows in the finished work. If not, I'll still have my quiet pride. #AI

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

I'm so grateful to the historians whose work makes mine so much easier. I see you, sleeves rolled, deciphering handwriting from previous centuries, adding indices, explaining outdated terms so I don't mess up. Thank you for your valuable and exacting work. #HistorySky

Had a conversation today with an unhoused man at our library. He's extremely concerned about global warming and had all this temperature information off the top of his head. I complimented that, and he said nobody's as aware of the weather as someone who sleeps outside. #ClimateChange

Gosh, the news out of Indiana is horrible. ICYMI, the Indiana Historical Society fired its entire Education and Engagement Team and its Exhibits staff. Apparently, the emergency all-hands meeting lasted 3 minutes & then they were all escorted from the building, having to return later for their stuff

Somebody asked today if I consider myself frugal. I told her I'm still using the grapefruit spoons my great-grandmother pulled out of the neighbor's trash. She lost her train of thought after that, just said, "Wow," and wandered away. I'm claiming that as a victory for my people.

You know what's really hard to explain in writing? Geography. So there's this town, see? And there are ridges around it. And hills. And they're in specific locations and various directions and you must visualize it all precisely correctly. A map, a map, my kingdom for a map! #Writing

Started today by dropping a copy of THE DECLARATION DECODED on my foot, then picking it up and...dropping it again. Folks, if you, too, have foot pain, I can recommend it as a book that doesn't hurt that much when it lands on your toes. #FootPain

This is absolutely nuts: hackers are hijacking high-profile Instagram accounts by simply asking Meta's AI chatbot to change the email on the account. Meta's AI does it, hacker gets password reset code, they're in. A staggering security issue www.404media.co/hackers-simp...

Hackers Simply Asked Meta AI to Give Them Access to High-Profile Instagram Accounts. It Worked

The exploit shows the extreme risk of offloading technical support to AI.
