Just a reminder before the “big announcement” today. Autism was discovered in 1911 and the modern definition of Autism came in 1943. Tylenol wasn’t widely used until the 1950s. Anyone trying to tell you that Tylenol causes Autism isn’t someone that should be taken seriously.

To bring an outside speaker in virtually for a meetup style talk to a development org (100 people), how much do people charge for that? Going for a proposal and I have no idea where to start. Any insight much appreciated! Also is trading an option here? 😅 I have a few topics to offer others 🥰
Maybe it’s the 2x Covid, but I legit cannot remember what we did every weekend before 2020. 🫠
A reminder that Axe-Con, the worlds largest virtual #accessibility conference, is next week! I’ll be talking about how to design for neurodiversity with lots of practical examples! If you don’t fancy that, there’s a whole line up of incredible speakers, and registration is free! lnkd.in/ert_uZe2

US CONGRESS- this is what you’re paid for. Help.
Congress? Hello—federal workers here. We are struggling to fight all of this on our own.
The quote tweets are why I push people to find developer communities. If I hadn't had many excellent developers to go to for second opinions, I would have thought the rest of my dev career was going to be like that.
I've been called a DEI hire a lot. Usually by the same people trying to prove my husband did my work because I can't be that good.
Technology is hard. Just got an email order confirmation for a food order from 6 days ago 🥴 So you’re doing great. Everything is fine and the world continues to turn. 🫶🏼

“Hey siri, set a timer for 5 min” Siri: a timer for 2 hours 25 minutes and 16 seconds starting now ..? 🥴😂
I bought this shirt from Kim years ago, it still looks great, and I still get compliments on it. Highly recommended. kaydacode.com/product/make...

I was bummed with the lack of mobile tech clothing that was available, so I created my own. Please consider supporting my store ❤️ I’ve personally tried on everything I offer (aside from the baby cloths) and stand by the quality and craft of the items I choose to wear my designs. Remember folks. You're gonna completely forget what you worked on this week when you come back early next year. Write something down so future you isn't completely lost.
I love the opportunity to share a11y knowledge- AI has a lot of potential, but accessibility requires intentionality to get it right, and AI isn’t there yet. Everyone deserves to have all the info available to them no matter how they are interacting with the content. ❤️
Some platforms (Facebook) do use AI for alt text when none is provided. But it’s very flawed and usually missing context to help people connect the dots. For example, I had a image of my foster dog, fawn and white pit mix, laying on his back getting belly pets while his head was in my lap.
Pre-vacation Kim really left a lot of unfinished projects for post-vacation Kim 😭
Looked up a management question, let’s remember truncation isn’t always required 😂😭
I have a new talk Im working on around burnout. I hope it gets selected this summer so I can bring the rest of it to life🥺
So many leadership problems come from leaders trying to coach their employees to be more like them, when really your business and people can flourish from leaning on individuals where they shine. ✨
Leaders: Be the reason someone is able to heal after toxic management. 🖤
Continually, I keep hearing people thinking AI will be able to make their websites and apps accessible for them. But consider for a moment: 96.3% of home pages had detected WCAG 2 failures in 2023. If AI models are taught on the current web, those models will only echo the same biases that exist.
Wild thought- but what if we helped people without filming it and putting their situation on blast. 💔
Negotiate. If you aren’t a strong negotiator, start negotiating other things— dinner plans, or price when buying second hand, or with a toddler (this has prepared me more then I care to admit 😂). Every little interaction using these skills is building your strength on negotiation. You got this.
Heard something today: if you’re neurodivergent, don’t give 100%, because your 70% is really great. Don’t shine too bright and burn out. 🙏🏼
Don’t mistake kindness for weakness. Take care of your people or someone else will.
