Among the more curious Roman burial finds are vessels known as tettinae. Small pots with narrow spouts and handles, they are often discovered in children’s graves. Their presence hints at the deep bond between parents and children, and the urge to provide care even after death.
I am always amazed by the skill of potters & love a good replica so this oil lamp by the super talented Gilbert Burroughs ticks many boxes! A Loeschcke type IV, with the central relief decoration depicting glass blowers (dates c.40-100 CE)... #archaeology #romanarchaeology #pottery

Certainly lots to ponder! #archaeology #pottery thank you all & @sgrp.bsky.social - wolf mosaic was an added bonus!
A massive thank you to everyone who battled the heat and transport disruption to make it to our annual conference at #leedscitymuseum yesterday. A good time was had by all! #romanpottery #sherdnerds #wonkywolf

As perhaps a 'New Antiquarian' [ditch the awful name, please?] I'm not sure what to make of this. In #Archaeology, this isn't a recent thing (& it's more complicated), but I do think academia still isn't sure what to do with learned - but non-academia derived - non-standard research outputs.
