Riding my bike through the mission with my Chrome bag on to get a pastry at Tartine before going to my job at Burning Man, because I am about 15 years behind the times and just catching up to embodying mid 2000s era hipster stereotypes.

In a world full of churning, terrible change swirling around us all the time, somehow my favorite bar in the mission is perfectly unchanged from when I used to hang out there in my early twenties, with one notable improvement: it is now a 3 minute walk from my new office.
This interview in Vanity Fair came out in 2010, and this exchange from it has lived rent-free in my head ever since.

Two weeks ago we unexpectedly lost the best cat I have ever known. His ashes came home yesterday. I still cant believe he’s gone. I will always miss you, Curio.
your regular reminder that the national shoplifting crisis was a manufactured moral panic largely engineered by corporations in order to cover up their own mismanagement — and that wage theft is the largest category of theft in the U.S.
Ferguson: "Just this weekend, I was shopping at a big home improvement store to buy a drill. I had to hit a call button and wait 15 minutes for an associate to unlock a padlock. Social trust has evaporated and people are taking advantage of it, and the same is true of our federal benefit programs."
Mentally I’m here. Even after this trip is over I will continue to mentally be here for some time.
Me: Telling my husband about how I undocked the boat at work today and then checked in to vessel traffic and happened to get a response from one of the few women who work there and how awesome it was to be a woman talking to a woman on the radio. Him: So you passed the Bechdel test?
after a quick review of my timeline i feel the need to point to the sign
Every couple of years I have to come to LA just so I can continue to justify my smug superiority that the Bay Area is, for all its insanity, objectively better by every measure.
The world is a hellscape but I have been, once again, forklift certified.
If I’m being sent to a class at an industrial training center then I think I should at least be able to get to touch some machines. As a treat.
Currently in Alabama for a work training, which happens to coincide with one of the nations largest weapons and defense contractor conferences. Interesting time to be overhearing “work talk” from the spooks at the bar next to me.

It’s not just Medicaid funding they’re withholding to MN. It’s food assistance, child care assistance, social services, job training, safety testing, public health, disaster relief. SNAP. Free lunch for kids in school. They hate us for loving our neighbors, and are collectively punishing us for it.
BREAKING: Vice President JD Vance says the Trump administration is pausing some Medicaid funding to Minnesota because of fraud concerns.
Do not cite the Deep Cringe to me, Witch. I was there when it was written. (Cleaning out a filing cabinet that I have not opened since college)
When they defeat ICE, Minnesota will have 34,000 trained volunteers to observe the police
More than 34,000 Minnesotans signed up to be trained as ICED observers with various activist groups in recent weeks, many of them since Jan. 7, when a federal agent shot and killed Renée Good.
AOC: That is a fundamental difference between VP Vance and I. I do not believe that the American people should be assassinated in the street.
If you have any funds to spare and want to help Minneapolis right now, getting dash cams to observers is crucially important and especially after today
ICE observers in the Twin Cities are in need of dash cams to prevent further intimidation and frivolous claims. Cams are $110, memory cards $35, and ship to us directly via this wish list: www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/... If you've been looking for a way to help, we'd sure appreciate it!
ICE just executed someone in cold blood in Minneapolis. The agency is frantically trying to spin it but the videos are already out there. Murderous fascist pigs.
losing my mind at the "she should have followed directions" people really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?
it is outright murder. talking about it on here means bracing for the inevitable "they do this all the time," which is true!, but probably not a useful comment, as the point is not to engender dialogue & analysis, but to join together in outrage at state violence
there is now a second angle (video going around). it is worse. this is murder. period.
Turns out a therapist deciding to not charge you for a session hits real different than say, a bartender comping you a round 🫠
“If you die before me, promise me you’ll die in a less annoying way than this,” is a thing that I had to say to my husband today. How’s your 2026 starting?
I’m facilitating the rehoming of two sweet cats who belonged to a friend who recently passed unexpectedly. They deserve a stable place to land. 2-3 year old bonded pair, one male one female. Please send me a DM if you have the interest and ability to care for these sweet voids. Located in Oakland.
Spending the last week of the year alternating between staring into the void and trying to dodge the last few punches that 2025 is trying to throw my way.
Sedentary liberals have a messianic faith in the power of information alone. But what matters is how we act on in response. The fact that Trump is an authoritarian—and that he has participated in violence against young women—will have little impact unless we set a precedent for acting on that fact.
