"Remember this: We be many and they be few. They need us more than we need them. Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.” - Arundhati Roy, War Talk (#223098) Epekwitk / PEI, Canada
My friend Shauna helped me with jars; I finally bought sugar and vinegar... it's almost time for my first attempt at pickled beets! Has anyone seen fresh beets at a veggie stand recently? #PEI
I meant to do so ages ago, ended up using commerical HEPAs over the last 6 years, but tonight I made my first Corsi–Rosenthal Box! My vet actually got me mobilized, she thinks it may help Bram's breathing challenges. It was really easy and not too much money. Apparently, they're quite powerful!
The day really couldn't decide if it was nice or gloomy, but it did not rain 😍
I think it's going to be sunny for real today and I'm hardly wanting to BREATHE in case it starts some new current that brings the torrential rain back 🤞
I do not believe smoke from a large battery fire is safe to breathe. I really hope folks are using masks and hepas as much as possible 💔
When did Canada start signing 100-year deals? How is this a good plan?
This morning, drenched and freezing AGAIN, Rita MacNeill in my head "And I swear to God if l ever see the sun" followed by Jimmy Rankin, "40 days and 40 nights the rain came fallin' down"... 😵💫 Am officially starting to lose it and have to go back out shortly 😖
Home today, turned on "Totally Killer", campy 80s themed teen slasher, and the character played by Kiernan Shipka has to give a fake identity - she says she's an exchange student from Prince Edward Island, Canada 😂
Happy 60th to the universe that shaped my personal socio-politics as a kiddo and has brought me so much joy ever since. Thank you Gene Roddenberry and Lucille Ball! 🖖❤️
I got my 1st Stephen MacInnis: "Island Breeze"! Peer pressure to buy local art, if you can. At our highest and lowest moments, we always turn to art; it's so important as AI and big tech targets the artistic sector to steal and strip it for wealth, that we support artists as we can whenever we can.
I have to work today and it's freezing wet again. I was in a bikini just last weekend 😭 My thoughts towards all my friends and family who complained all Summer claiming Fall is superior are less than generous this AM (esp. as they likely get to stay in bed today - gah I'm a salty duck 😂).
Side-eyeing everyone who wished away beautiful Summer for freezing wet Fall.

This storm is rather hilarious. Just days of circling overhead, pouring steady rain. It's almost hard to imagine how a storm can just *sit* like this.
I was really tired after the week and accidentally fell asleep in the early evening. Now, with a quiet house (a rare beast), I'm enjoying the feel of cool air over the window sill and the sounds of the wind in the trees - reminiscent of the shoreline rhythms.
If feminism isn’t intersectional, socialist and proactive what are we even doing here.
In happier news, I am DEFINITELY dancing in the rainstorm this weekend. (I just need to find a swim cap so I don't bleed red dye all over my face 😉)
I've been stockpiling a bit of dry pet food for Henry, Bram, and the budgies. I'm seeing too many sources talking about incoming global foot shortages and supply chain issues. I feel I can handle whatever for me, but it would kill my soul to not be able to feed them. 🦜🐇
It will be a good month. The sun still brings warm even as the wind toys with cool. Asters bloom and shades of orange - the best colour - start to fade in. There will still be swims, but campfires will be bundled up, and open windows will mean cozy sleeping with warm socks.
Folks cheering for the silencing of difficult but necessary conversations in the name of peace / positivity hurts my heart when, in truth, we need honest community engagement and informed intentionality now more than ever before. If the only acceptable engagement is smiling and praise, we're cooked.

Make your favorite film sound as boring as possible without giving away the title: Girl absconds responsibility, offering her brother to otherworldly creatures, only to then to immediately journey to get him back.
Make your favorite film sound as boring as possible without giving away the title: Three college professors invent a new way of roasting marshmallows after being fired.
If you don't use your brain, you lose function. Collectively, we've decided to offload swathes of normal intellectual labour (writing, reading, solving, creating) to AI. Lots of alarms are being sounded about devastating outcomes to our brains and the job market. We can stop. Write the damn email.
Another stunner at the shoreline. The clouds were so interesting; the sky looked like a painter's canvas. We stayed until thunder rolled and, knowing thunderstorms often bring pounding rain, we scooted to the car. Just in time - the heavens opened up 😊
We have known, for decades, that climate change refugees exist and that the number of folks in danger is going to spiral and escalate - it's well started and not one country has spoken about how we will rise to help.
It isn’t a coincidence that many rich countries are accelerating policies to reduce immigration at the same time we are witnessing more natural disasters supercharged by climate change.
Today and tomorrow are likely our last properly hot days of summer, so we ran to the shore this evening. Afterward, we grabbed some supper - food always tastes SO good after a swim and sun, doesn't it? ☀️ We'll be back out tomorrow - if you can get to the shore, do, we're soon back to the cool 🍂
I was outside during some of the worst of it today - picture me, absolutely drenched, my red streak dripping pink on my face, clothes plastered, dress shoes full of water 😂 Driving home? yards full of hail making it look like November, but the steam coming off everything giving August away.
Charlottetown is currently embroiled in a whodunit - fireworks edition.
