Happy #MakeATerribleComicDay2026 to all who celebrate! Here's mine and my kid's contribution. (My kid is funnier than me, it's fine.) (Yes, the kid who drew this is the same kid in my comic.) (This kid is VERY funny.) #makeaterriblecomicday

skill issue. just do the worldbuilding/research and then not put it into the story this is not a joke. thinking out the implications but not explicitly enumerating them allows meaningful consistency without bogging your story down
Every so often my opinion on worldbuilding is vindicated by its own largest communities online If you are writing a narrative, a linear story or set of stories, heavy worldbuilding is Sugar of Lead: it tastes sweet, but it poisons you bit by bit if you don't understand what you're working with.
We challenged our not-very-culturally-literate 13yo to name a football player. She thought about it and said “Taylor Swift’s boyfriend,” which I allowed on the grounds that it would be sufficient to name him with Pithing Needle

Begging absolutely everyone to stop posting quotes and screenshots in order to dunk on them. Rancid vibes. Fractured discourse. Instant dogpiles. I don’t need to know what some asshole said. Just please post cool shit so I can read that instead.
If you hate the things a stupid pundit says, please block them instead of keeping the endless news cycle they depend on for engagement alive. Just seal them underground.
I'm going to talk a bit.about why you should back @jayeatonart.bsky.social's comic Runaway to the Stars on Kickstarter! Short version: This is sci-fi through the lens of disability, accessibility, and difference, and it is unlike anything I've read. 🧵 www.kickstarter.com/projects/iro...

I am once again tapping the "it is a genuine qualitative break from 99.9% of human history that society can now produce massive food surpluses with the labor only a tiny percent of the population and nobody has any idea how to grasp this" sign.
people _need_ to learn that it is absolutely possible for everyone to lose a war. it is not even that rare. it has happened a lot

Dark matter passes a new cosmic test, while MOND fails
On cosmic scales, only dark matter (or something equivalent) gives us the Universe we observe. Now, the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect agrees.

Mox Amber is a quiet image painted with meticulous detail – perhaps too much detail for a tiny trading card. Who would commit to such monotony, knowing it would never be seen at scale? 🎥: youtu.be/yNxh_fEmO1k
Yes, the Grink was there. I'm getting to that. He was on that island with me. And I wouldn't be alive to tell my story without him.
Watching the livestream of the Artemis II lunar flyby, and one of the astronauts was just being an absolute Moon Nerd talking about which craters they can currently see and all the fascinating albedo variations, and I just love it www.youtube.com/live/z-j1uxB...

“Well done. Here come the test results: You are a horrible person. I'm serious, that's what it says: A horrible person. We weren't even testing for that.”
At least I get to repost the greatest headline the Independent has ever run.
Today I want to tell you a story about a little game I played early on in my time on Riftbound—a game called “Monch or Gromp?” (Thread)
Notice how there’s not even a fig leaf here—not even an attempt to appear as though this helps anyone or keeps anyone safe. This is pure persecution, and it’s what all this anti-trans shit has always been about. Protect trans vs people any way you can, folks.
Kansas is sending letters to trans people telling them that their licenses will be revoked as of tomorrow and that they risk arrest for driving on a suspended license. This is pure cruelty. www.erininthemorning.com/p/kansas-sen...
We literally know now that anti-trans legislation was pushed by a pedophile ring to allow a pedophile ring to serve a pedophile ring’s interests, and legislators have decided the best course of action is to keep doing what the pedophile ring wants.
I really hate anti-trans politicians, and I especially hate it because it was a culture war issue where we were clearly winning and then a bunch of nominally liberal people at the Times and the Atlantic decided to reverse that and they did.
Timeless humour! A 2,000 year-old Roman souvenir pen with a joke inscription roughly equivalent to: “I went to Rome and all I got you was this cheap pen!" 😂 Dated circa 70 AD, this iron stylus pen was recovered in London during excavations by MOLA. 📷 Juan Jose Fuldain/MOLA #Archaeology

Unironically yes, LOWER DECKS is about how the response to the disappointments of the post-Cold War era and the complexity of the modern world should not be despair or cynicism but instead a recommitment to the original ideals of liberalism, thank you for coming to my TED talk.
