New to The Locked Tomb series and having feelings about these books. The writing is so well done and I love (?) the characters (again, complex feelings). But I've never had to work so hard to read a novel. Made it through Gideon ok, Harrow was harder, and I'm just lost with Nona-but am ok with that.

Recently began collecting DVDs and Jurassic Park was one of the first I bought. I grew up (way before the first film was released) wanting to be a paleontologist, so I deeply love the film and the scientists it portrays.

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

One of my favorite UCSD library stories: student from Norway rushed to the desk to tell me an animal, possibly escaped from San Diego’s famed zoo, was outside the library. Showed me a photo of the “escaped” raccoon and we had a delightful conversation about it.

I had a genealogical breakthrough today that made me very happy. I had been trying to trace my matrilineal line and was blocked, for many reasons, around 1825. Today, I made it back to 1330 in Wales. I generally hate personal info being online but it does simplify genealogy research.

It's tragically appropriate that we spent a whole generation telling students that the humanities were moribund, and they should all study STEM, only for the greatest innovations in STEM to prove why the humanities were so essential all along.
