My toxic trait is because I work in search engine optimization, I have exactly three seconds of patience while watching a layperson try to use a search engine before I try to give them a revised search string It sounds harmless but I promise you it is deeply annoying (to my girlfriend)

Expectation: plan-free day in which to CRUSH my word count while invigorated by sheer creativity Reality: big pain flare, barely able to reheat food, extremely flat, 0 creativity 😣 sometimes it is what it is, folks

A piece of advice for new writers: read the magazines you're submitting stories to. Not only will it help you understand their tastes, but you'll probably find some cool writers who will broaden your horizons.

I keep making all the characters in my book gay Which is usually something I aspire to But we haven’t left the bad guy zone yet Which means I’m accidentally queering all the bad decisions the death cult makes Which is not, exactly, the intention )<

I am bereft, for I will not go to any cons this year (Too many friends getting married on/around con weekends) (It’s a good problem to have) (But bereft of cons) (2027 I AM COMING FOR YOU)

So I calculated my submission stats 👀 ❌ Most rejections: 17 ✅ Least rejections: 0 (accepted on first sub) 👀 Average rejections: 4-7 🏃‍♂️ Shortest time to acceptance: 4 weeks 🗓️ Longest: 6-7 years (incl. rewrite) & every story placement is so unique— I’ve placed things immediately or toiled eternally.

Working for American companies, the biggest culture shock is that Canadians expect to be treated better than American employees. Because we have security that our basic needs are met—for a time—if we lose our job. They can never understand the turnover.

About 24% of U.S. employees stay in unwanted jobs just for health insurance, a report out Wednesday finds. Up significantly since 2021, the uptick in "job lock" is a concerning sign for the U.S. economy. n.pr/4gQIY5E

You know, I started my publishing journey in difficult situation with untrustworthy people. 15 years later, it’s only now that I feel secure & open & able to lead with the benefit of the doubt. I always aim to be kind and friendly, but I was always protected. Be good to interns & assistants 💜

The Rule: I am not allowed to start typing a second novel until the first novel is done I can bend laboriously over a notebook and hand write the whole thing BUT A KEYBOARD MAY NOT BE INVOLVED

I am very close to 150 pages on the book Which is very exciting, because that’s about 1/2 the length I want it to be But also not very exciting, because I’m only 1/3 of the way through the book

AI writing is going to be an unfathomably huge issue for SFF short fiction markets. People aren’t even good at it yet, and it’s a problem. As the models get better and the prompters develop more skills, it will be so critical for organizing bodies to protect magazines.

khōréō is one of the most important voices in the short fiction world right now, and has been consistently publishing absolutely stellar work since they started. They're ALMOST at their funding goal, and there's only a few days left to back; let's make sure they continue.

I have passed forty books read so far this year 😭✨ This is shaping up to be the most I’ve read since before COVID, and potentially since I was the marketing lead for Canada’s biggest book festival and reading was part of my DAY JOB !!!
