Just got an email - Melbourne’s Western Treatment Plant, the most famous birdwatching location in Victoria, a RAMSAR-listed site sometimes unironically called “the Kakadu of the south”, has been temporarily closed to birders as a precautionary measure due to the arrival of H5 bird flu in Australia.

I like naps, cake and gin. Free Palestine. 🍉
I was just served up this ad on FB & apart from chuckling at the “escorted by a manager & a doctor” line, thought it looked really interesting. Read the itinerary; Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan & Kazakhstan, sounds amazing. Had to hunt for the price: $44,900 per person. 😂 In my dreams.
Saw the rain forecast for Sun/Mon on Saturday, so went outside & threw Dynamic Lifter around the garden. It stank to high heaven, but it’s all soaked in now. 👍
The National Press Club is currently debating the NDIS cuts. Our research shows that either a 25% gas tax or ending the fuel tax credit scheme would more than cover the funding that are being cut The NDIS is sustainable live.thepoint.com.au/2026/08/the-...

Had a rare treat for dinner: a roast leg of lamb. I studded it with garlic & rosemary & made one of the best gravies of my life. 😋 Husband has now been assigned the task of turning the leftover meat & gravy into shepherd’s pies. And the bones will make a batch of stock.
Currently listening to the Concierto de Aranjuez - or the Concerto de Orange Juice if you’ve ever seen the movie Brassed Off.
Look, I’m a big fan of the VEC & I have the benefit of understanding the law, but they need to push government to move faster to deal with bullshit nonsense party registrations.
This is the main reason I'm so angry about the "AI" bubble. All this enormous effort could have been spent combatting the climate crisis and the opportunity cost of your fucking chatbot is going to be the very climate we live in Imagine what we could have done with those 3 trillion dollars?

So last year Max Miller sued his daughter's daycare center after they reported to police that she had bruises and injuries on her thighs, face, groin, and vaginal area, and she was taken to an emergency room. He sued the daycare center that reported it! 😱 newrepublic.com/post/214108/...

Catholic Church Australia, net worth ~$30B, over on FB asking ordinary folks to chip in to help the homeless. Do NOT click on the comments, it’s all brainwashed dickheads worshipping Vinnies. FFS
We attempted to watch The Christophers last weekend, but husband was tired, so we postponed it till tonight. 30 minutes in & he’s snoring. 🙄

Tonight’s music has been great. Up now, one of my all time faves: The Mamas and The Papas “Dream a Little Dream”. Unfortunately, we chose this for mum’s funeral as the grandkids carried her coffin out, so it’s kind of traumatic. 😅😂🤪😑
Absolutely loving IKEA cashing in on the Wicker movie. 😂 Complete with Raye’s “Where is my Husband” as soundtrack.
I’m going to a retirement lunch next week for a colleague from my 3 & a half years of casual work. The office has 3 permanent staff, 15 or so casuals at peak times, so I assumed I’d know everyone. Seems it’s bigger than Ben Hur though & now I’m worried there’ll be some corporate bullshit. 😅
Surprise pies for dinner tonight. They’re husband’s creations from the freezer but he didn’t label them, so we don’t know if they’re beef in red wine, chicken & leek, peposo or what.
If you’re in the NE suburbs of Melbourne, there’s a new private Emergency Department opening Monday at Warringal hospital in Heidelberg. Obviously only useful if you have private health insurance.
I'm always amazed at the fact this or that particular glass object survived 2000 years when I cannot keep my favourite cup intact. The technique, the colour combinations on this bowl are impressive but also the fact that the object is still there.
Hellenistic mosaic glass bowl, cobalt blue with yellow/green spirals, fire-polished, with diameter of 5in (13 cm), dating from 2nd/3rd century BC. Convincing 3-D effect of spirals when seen in detail (at R). For details of the ancient technique used, see www.bonhams.com/auctions/113...
Imagine beefing with Annie Lennox. Like, you’re automatically wrong.
For some reason my Insta feed is a mixture of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes & Rocky Horror. Not sure what that means?
Watching Ann Droid. Diane Morgan is bloody brilliant and I’ve loved Sue Morgan since The Royle Family.
I’ve had private health cover since I was 18 (because Medicare didn’t exist then) but also it’s a NFP that provided cheap cover & saw us through 3 kids, ~50 hospital admissions plus generous extras covers. Zero out of pocket for hospital, free dental, cash back for stuff no other company pays.

In the middle of the river separating Serbia and Romania near the Serbian port of Prahovo, a rusty hull is now visible along with a broken mast where the Nazi flag used to fly.
