Seattle youth, get your fucking ballots in! At least just to vote for Pramila if nothing else (but please do others if you have the capacity). And if you are in District 37, Jaelynn Scott is a Black trans woman democratic socialist who has been endorsed by SDSA. She deserves your vote.

NEW: Young people are on the ballot this election, but can we please get young people to the ballot BOX? So far, King County voters 65+ account for 4 times as many ballots as people under 35. You have until 8pm Tuesday to close that gap!

Two more things about this deeply-researched article: 1) it’s a great reminder to re-read Normal Accidents 2) the good Admiral correctly refers to DCA by its real name, which is Washington National Airport

like I dunno, if I were a strategist in a functional opposition party I might pay smart and creative people to make viral TikTok and Instagram videos pointing out Republicans are illegally turning U.S. local broadcast TV into a right wing propaganda machine but that's just me

"For orbital mirrors, the reason they are dumb as shit can be summarized like this: The Sun is really bright. Go outside nerds, touch some grass." excellent blog post from @physicsmatt.bsky.social on the really dumb idea of putting giant mirrors in space (FYI - USA FCC has approved a prototype)

Since we're apparently getting the Incredibly Stupid And Pointless Space Mirror, here's why a space mirror is incredibly stupid and pointless. www.physicsmatt.com/blog/2026/5/...

Always and forever, the people physically closest to a disaster will be the first responders. Your neighbour is who notices you missing and digs through the rubble to find you. Make connections. Build resilience.

It's World Marine Aids to Navigation Day on the 1st July, so here's a quick thread on some aids to navigation. Now the first and most obvious aid to navigation is dry land. Dry land - pay attention at the back - is strongly suggestive that you can't go sailing here.
