This couple came legally. They applied for asylum before their visas expired, wanting to do it all by the books. After six months, they applied for work permits to stay afloat, passing background checks. They worked legally and paid taxes while government delay dragged on. Then ICE came for them.
The couple’s arrest outside Midway Airport aligns with what immigration attorneys across the country have observed in recent months: an increase in ICE arrests at airports of people traveling domestically with expired visas but pending immigration cases. www.chicagotribune.com/2026/08/05/c...
I was looking at the status of Lyme disease vaccines and found out there is a vaccine that might be effective but the downside is it’s mRNA based so America will never allow it.
Beginning to feel like I need to budget a week on the blog for a military primer on 'how the US Navy is the load-bearing pillar of your ability to eat bananas and of folks in developing countries to eat at all.' Not saying that is an optimal situation, merely that it is the situation.
I believe you can see this guy slowly realizing where Schiff was going.
holy shit -- Schiff ties Trump's judicial nominees in knots by asking them who won the 2016 before *before* asking them who won in 2020, which results in them sounding like election deniers about Trump's victories!
The fact that the stupidest person in history is now dictator makes sense when you remember Americans were livid that their burrito taxis were too expensive for a whole year.
Trump: "Nobody knows that 'dumb' doesn't have a B" (Dear reader, it has a B)
It's pretty weird that this one guy gets to say 100 things every day that make no sense at all or are wrong in like 12 different ways and he still gets to be in charge of everything
Trump: "An outlier is a person that doesn't have a chance" (That's not what 'outlier' means)
Gonna go out on a limb here and say racist cranks who write for extremist white nationalist websites like VDARE should not, in fact, be confirmed to top roles in the Department of Justice.
SCHIFF: You told my staff you stood by your article in white nationalist website VDARE where you wrote, 'Muslim immigrants & their kids seem prone to terrorism' C: I wrote that article in support of Trump's travel ban S: Do you stand by it? C: I stand by that article S: That's all I need to know
My point here is not that Trump's America is a good actor - it really isn't. My point here is that a lot of folks have a silly idea of what a 'World without the United States' would look like and they are not prepared for the reality nor are they preparing for the reality.
And if you are wondering what a breakdown in global shipping looks like, a good place to start is thinking about net food importers. Our World in Data has a handy map:
And if your response is, "but I, a person who lives in a wealthy and largely food self-sufficient country, do not like the modern economy" fucking miss me with that. I am not particularly interesting in letting millions of Asians and Africans starve so your politics can be trendy.
The problem is that as we're seeing with the Strait of Hormuz, "the USA forfeits its global ambitions" does not lead to a new age of peace and sunshine, but to global recession and instability. The Strait of Hormuz is not the only load-bearing instance of US power backstopping modern economies.
I think the traditional answer is actually "forfeit your global ambitions because you can't afford them and voters won't make the sacrifices necessary to restore them," unfortunately
I also do have to laugh a little about how shitlib has no definition nowadays beyond “someone I have personally and instantly deemed inadequately left based on vibes and a couple social media posts” At some point I’ve seen pretty much everybody semi-popular on this website deemed a shitlib
Michael Flynn got paid by the Russian government to do anti-American propaganda, got paid by the Turkish government to conspire to break US laws, and now got paid by the US government for helping cover up a hostile anti-American foreign intelligence operation, ensuring perpetrators got away with it.
🧵🧵🧵 A scandal that hardly anyone knows happened is Trump giving traitor Michael Flynn $1.25 million in your tax money. Flynn, Trump’s 1st national security adviser, pleaded guilty twice to lying to the FBI but was pardoned by Trump. He sued, alleging "weaponization," and DOJ paid him in March. 1/4🧵
Since SpaceX gets all their stock manipulation ideas from poorly remembered 1950s-1970s scifi, someone remind Musk about skinsuits. Why? Because it will be funny.
It's very very strange to be in a situation where Jeanine Pirro is the sane and responsible one!
It's funny that Jeanine Pirro brought a box of evidence to WH to persuade Trump. He wants her to consciously *throw out* exculpatory facts and *knowingly* prosecute innocent people. So facts can't persuade him by definition. Me and @barbmcquade.bsky.social on this: newrepublic.com/article/2139...
THE $168 BILLION WAS TAKEN ILLEGALLY AND THE GOVERNMENT DIDN’T WANT TO GIVE IT BACK. Kill me I’ve wasted my life.
Bessent: "Here at the Treasury, I had $168 billion of tariff revenues that we're gonna have to refund. So when the Democrats scream, "Oh, the refunds should go back to the American people!', well, the American people had it, it was in the Treasury and it was paying down the debt."
NEW: Missouri voters have rejected Amendment 4, which Republicans had passed to make citizen-initiated constitutional amendments effectively impossible. It would have required initiatives to pass in every congressional district—not just statewide—giving the overwhelmingly red districts a veto
He serves in the branch that the Constitution specifically charges with the duty of removing the President for criming.
Cornyn: "There's nothing we could do to rein in the president"
One more interesting point: this spring I sat down with Sharyn Alfonsi of 60 Minutes for an extensive interview about my Epstein investigation. Subsequently, CBS pulled the segment and fired the reporter. The MAGA buyout of media has unquestionably aided the Trump administration’s cover up here.
Bombshell new report out from my investigators this morning spanning our four year investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s financial records. This report shows exactly how Wall Street protected Epstein and enabled his sex trafficking for decades. Mega thread following with some key points:
Call me crazy, but if a Democratic president had 350 accounts closed by their bank for money laundering it’d be more than a blip in the media
The MAHA movement are a bunch of bigoted eugenicist cranks who believe food regulations are government overreach, vaccines kill, children with autism should be sterilized for the good of the gene pool, and an issue like a peanut allergy or celiac disease is a sign of evolutionary inferiority.
Hard not to notice that Buttigieg still gets skewered for doing a couple years at McKinsey in his mid 20s during the late 00s, but the general response from most of those same ppl to Graham Platner signing up to work for Blackwater in his mid 30s--not even a decade ago!--has been one big shrug.
www.newyorker.com/news/the-pol... Why would the New Yorker do a soft focus "Platner holds uneasy mirror up to America's veteran problem" while ignoring his PMC time? Seems like an important piece of his puzzle not shared by the vast, vast majority of the combat veteran community.
Statement on the Death of Edwin Jeovanny Lopez Cornejo at Delaney Hall:
“It’s not a fight between left and right, it’s between top and bottom. Which is why I met with a bunch of plague cultists for the most powerful man in the entire world.”
Sure the MAHA activists want to make it illegal for trans people to access hormones but they're so authentic and populist about it so
An important lesson given RFK's claims he's doing a "cooking show."
Transportation secretary Sean Duffy benefited from millions in corporate donations to make a show about road trips. But two months after Duffy said the show would premiere, it doesn't appear to exist at all. My latest False Flag @thebulwark.com: www.thebulwark.com/p/what-the-h...
