Pre-Covid, I always thought the 1918 flu memories were just overshadowed by WWI. But now, it’s clearly something about pandemics that just do things to collective memory. I don’t know whether this is unique to modernity but it‘s clear that humans react differently to this type of trauma.

I usually take a couple of days off around the anniversary of my dad's death because I am filled with sad & don't want to be at work. As I've had to use a bunch of vacation days when I'm going to be late to keep from being suspended, I only have 6 days left until January.
