I think you should be allowed to steal things from this man's house, legally
Lombardo on Trump: "When the press and media runs him down, they think about 'he's taking care of his billionaire friends.' But those billionaire friends provide jobs. And unless you take care of them, those jobs are absent."
"However shall we cope with the tiresomeness of language policing" Did I do it right??
Jane Austen used 'however' at the beginning of a sentence, and so can you.

the City of Boise's increasingly aggressive campaign against the state's repeated attempt to ban pride flags flown by cities is extremely funny
i have never seen a higher density of pride flags than in Boise

holy shit -- Schiff ties Trump's judicial nominees in knots by asking them who won the 2016 before *before* asking them who won in 2020, which results in them sounding like election deniers about Trump's victories!
Notice DOJ doesn't talk about its efforts to obtain state voter files anymore. They are 0-20 in those cases and today is the beginning of the quiet period -- states can no longer do systematic removals of names from the voter rolls. TLDR: We won!π₯³

Efforts to police bathrooms are evil and will impact peoples' health. Segregated bathrooms themselves must be done away with, it's the only solution. I reported this question out, years ago for @99pi.org 99percentinvisible.org/episode/wher...

Out of all the cataclysms we suffer, pandemics alone deny us our most important coping mechanism: each other. To gather, to seek comfort in each other's company, becomes deadly--a vector of the disaster, rather than shelter from it. And yes, that very obviously fucks with you.
Pre-Covid, I always thought the 1918 flu memories were just overshadowed by WWI. But now, itβs clearly something about pandemics that just do things to collective memory. I donβt know whether this is unique to modernity but itβs clear that humans react differently to this type of trauma.
I wonder if this kind of disease normalcy bias is an evolutionary advantage with a big societal downside. We're monkeys with anxiety disorders. Humans who can stop thinking about how the world is a neverending assault of invisible things trying to kill them are probably happier and more productive.

Missouri predicting the President for a million years and then instantly failing to do that and instead reflexively just voting R every cycle the instant we nominated a Black man was really pretty telling, ultimately.
Missouri elections be like: Hitler (R) 79% - Christ (D) 21% And then the ballot initiative: Amend the Missouri constitution to require the state to own the means of production and work towards full communism? Yes 92% - No 8%

In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname
