Fascinating talk at #ViCEPHEC26 by Ross Galloway on the performance of #ChatGPT on the FCI test. Amazing results on the standard test, but much lower performance on 'isomorphic' questions. I think it's so important that students still learn to apply physics in new situations when using LLMs.

Ross Galloway from the University of Edinburgh presenting a talk at ViCEPHEC 2026 on evaluating the performance of Large Language Models on the Force Concept Inventory test.

Hey #chemsky - I am working on a book about women in chemistry and trying to track down an incident about a general chem textbook where the authors made a snarky comment about women in bikinis (and parenthetically called themselves out as sexist). Any hints for me??

This time next week it will be all about the Microscale, as the chemistry team at CLEAPSS decamp to support the UK edition of the International Microscale Conference. CLEAPSS will be supporting the event all week long, if you are there come and collect a CLEAPSS Mug or see our model chemical store.

Something not mentioned in this post is maintaining mental boundaries. Don't let toxic colleagues weigh on your mind when you're not at work. Notice the thought, then choose different ones. Ruminate on their toxic behaviour during work time instead. Get paid for it. #MentalHealth

Picard management tip: We all have a primordial instinct to fear the unknown. It is up to each of us to suppress that instinct, to investigate mysteries even in the face of risk.

Really happy to see this one out in the world, top efforts by Scarlett and Corey on their final year projects (a couple of years apart mind you) with technical input from the brilliant Sian as always

🔓Be sure to read the recent #OpenAccess article by Chris Hawes and colleagues at Keele University reporting the structural chemistry and environment-dependent fluorescence of a tetratopic pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole ligand 👏⬇️ 🔗 lnkd.in/eWDyFAaM 📍@keeleuniversity.bsky.social 🧪 @cshchem.bsky.social

A new tetratopic carboxylic acid ligand containing a fluorescent pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole is reported, and its structural chemistry in two solvated forms and a strontium(II) MOF are examined alongside its photophysical behaviour.
