So short-sighted. This is one of the extra things Unis do: contribute to a sense of place & civic identity. E.g. why I reckon the locals, & most of the academics, at the U of Bolton were likely aghast at the (now under police investigation) VC's re-badging of it as 'the Uni of Greater Manchester'.

Glad someone senior from the sector is pushing back. Labour MPs need to understand the serious real anger from graduates and the people who produce them. And the dangerous financial situation they have allowed to fester, or indeed worsened, in one of Britain’s leading sectors.

It's my thesis that the Habsburg/Hapsburg lip/jaw was noticed as a family trait only in the mid-C19 (so sez ngram viewer), but I can't find any decent historiography of the issue, despite it being so notorious. There's loads of medical speculation, but that's not what I'm after. Any ideas? Pls RT

On Burnham’s social care speech today, it was deeply refreshing to see him make a point to thank immigrants who provide social care. I hope that reflects where we go with ILR bill but beyond that it is good to hear gratitude and openness rather than scapegoating and penny pinching.
