I genuinely mean this. I cannot imagine a more bleak dystopian notion than the idea of all art being turned into slop designed to coddle my exact perceived intentions. The point of literature, film, music, and art is to be exposed to the interior lives of others. Who are these people.

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

New pages available~ www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/th... tapas.io/series/The-G...

Comic page - Establishing shot of a medieval-style manor with tiny dragons on the roof like crows. A family of three approach.

Father: "Behave yourself, Lazuli"

He leans down toward his young daughter. She is pouty. The mom smiles gently.

Father: "Remember that this meeting is about you and our family's future here."

Lazuli: "I know, Da."

Myself as a lump on the floor, crying with a janky right arm.

Text reads: Pls. My wrist.

The Gemstone Dragon

Lazuli and Fynn have always thought themselves lucky that their arranged marriage was filled with love. However, when the weight of Fynn’s responsibility to his village and his family pushes him towar...

Fynn is a hero and a villain wrapped up nicely in a tall blond package. Writing him is almost as much fun as drawing him. #art #oc #characterdesign

A character sheet for my original character Fynn Volkov. Expressions at the top, and a lineup of him as an adult, teen, and child at the bottom.

For the expression section, two are glaring at each other, as if they are different characters. One says "You make it so easy, boy. It's no wonder that girl manipulates you with no more than a sad look in her eye." The other replies "That 'girl' is my wife."

Text to the side reads: Fynn hasn't gone through as much visual development as Lazuli, but his *character* development has been astronomical. I'm so excited to watch him suffer.

Toonish illustrations of Fynn and Lazuli, with her in his lap and grinning, and another with Fynn using magenta lightning magic, followed underfoot by his dachshunds.

Text reads: His last name, Volkov, is the Russian name "wolf," mirroring Lazuli's. He's incredibly sentimental about Laz, his mom, and his dogs. His devotion is often misguided though.
His dogs are named Heckyl and Jeckyl, by the way. He named them as a kid when he was first learning to write.

My girl has come a long way, and still has further to go! #oc #art #characterdesign

Character sheet showing older designs for the main character of my comic, from a more plain shawl and dress to a more detailed Leine and Girdle design with accessories.
Text reads: I've always been very interested in pre-colonial Irish culture and fashion. Lazuli's dress is modeled after the "Leine" - a long tunic or dress made from fine linen and dyed bright yellow using saffron.

Lazuli's final design for the comic. Her adult, ten, and child versions on top with some expressions below.
Text reads: My style has changed as much as Lazuli herself has. It still carries some aspects over, but has solidified more and more.
Her name, Felcu, means "Wolf." I derived it from the Irish term for a wolf-dog, "Faoil Cú," since she is not entirely wild.

Doodle of a Cricann Luchra, or "bark-nosed drake" These cat-sized wyverns were selectively bred to resemble various houseplants. This one is modeled after this funky fella.

A wyvern-like creature hanging by its tail from a branch with wings spread downward and a wide open mouth. The wings resemble a type of begonia with white spots.

Surprise! I LIVE!! Did the Webtoon thumbnail for my comic (catch the first installment on August 31st, "The Gemstone Dragon")

Digital drawing of my characters Lazuli and Fynn. Fynn's arms are wrapped around Lazuli from behind in a menacing and possessive gesture, his left hand is gripping her face. He rests his mouth against her neck and glares at the viewer with glowing magenta eyes. Lazuli looks frightened, and his grabbing his arm as if trying to loosen his grip.
A smoky dragon with purple lightning details surrounds them, whispering into Fynn's ear.

Final project of the semester (and thus my college career) is officially dooonnnnee!! #oc #art #illustration

Thistle helps Lazuli with her Beast Folk research.

Digital drawing of two characters in a large cylindrical library with magic crystals for lighting, and a floating crystal elevator on the right. The left character, Thistle, leans over the other, pointing at the book she's reading. They are wearing a hooded fur cloak and bird skull mask. The right character, Lazuli, grips her head in frustration.
Thistle says "can't you fuckin read?"
Lazuli replies "I hate you."

I'm so exhausted but at least I'm finally at the point where I get to draw my boy in his human form more! #oc #art #comic #sketch

Cropped comic page sketch of one panel showing my original character Damian looking at the camera, one hand on his hip and the other swirling fire around it. He has horns, scales, long locs and a lot of crystal jewelry. He says "it's in no way a curse."

Zara Alfonso Illustration @zaraalfonso.bsky.social · 6mo ago

Hi #portfolioday I'm Zara, a Canadian artist working mainly on Magic: The gathering and painting for myself in my free time 🖤

“Stasis” is a portrait painted by the artist Zara Alfonso, and is the first piece in her series about invisible illness. A portrait painting of a girl with skin so pale she’s almost translucent, her lips are tinged blue and she gazes upward through seemingly unseeing eyes. Pale moths and winged insects cover the expanse of her face and body, blending into her skin in places.

“Medusa Portrait” is a portrait painted by the artist Zara Alfonso. A portrait of a young Medusa who looks peacefully towards the viewer, her hair is flowing mass of thick iridescent dark indigo snakes tied up in a head wrap.

"Winternight Stories” is an oil painting by the artist Zara Alfonso, done for the Magic: The Gathering Tarkir: Dragonstorm. An orc stands in the middle of a small crowd, telling a story of the battle against dragons with a swirl of watery blue magic.

Zara Alfonso's oil painting of the official card illustration for “Dualcaster Mage” for Magic: The Gathering Secrets of Strixhaven Special Guests.

A digital illustration of two characters. One is squatting on her knees with her hands raised by her face and has a big open smile. She's white with long straight brown hair, wearing a brown jacket, cropped shirt, and short blue jeans with tennis shoes. The other is standing and staring down at you with a serious expression. Don't mess with her girl. She's East-Asian with shoulder-length dark brown hair, buff, wearing a loose grey jacket, cropped shirt, long loose pants, and tennis shoes. The background is faded and not detailed, but shows a distant city and two trees on either side in the midground.

A photo of a Crayola marker drawing of a coastal scene. A clear blue sky over the ocean. Waves crashing on the rocky shore, and a few rocks scattered farther out. The rocky coast wraps around the left side of the page. The markers used to make the piece are placed beside the sketchbook.

A photo of a realistic charcoal drawing of a ring-tailed lemur on grey toned paper. The lemur is tucking its face behind it's tail that's wrapped around the front of its body, resting on a large piece of wood. It's staring off to the right. The background is dark and out of focus. Next to the artwork are fake plants and pencils for the social media photo op.

A digital painting of an anthro fox with light orange and white color patterns, wearing a long sleeve green sweater and knee-high socks with tight white shorts, and a massive tail. He has long white hair tied up in a ponytail. He's at the beach by the ocean, relaxing by doing yoga, on one knee and back arched with his arms over his head. Palm trees, birds, clouds, and a distant mountain can be seen in the background.

A dark skinned elven scout runs towards the camera. She’s just jumped out of an alcove in a city wall and she’s making her exit through the forest, startling all the wildlife around her.

Illea - An illustration painted for Krystle Matar’s “Legacy of the Brightwash – Special Edition”.

A beautiful woman dressed in rich yellow silks stands regally in a hallway. Behind her we see a wall with wood panelling, green wallpaper, and large paintings with golden frames.

Jason - An illustration painted for Krystle Matar’s “Legacy of the Brightwash – Special Edition”.

On a foggy, cold day, a young Asian man is tending to a vegetable garden. He’s dressed in threadbare clothes and has clearly faced hardship. Behind him we see a tall iron wrought fence and a big, austere brick building.

Evithorir, painted for Critical Role by Zoe Badini.

Evithorir is described as an elven figure perpetually shrouded in shadows. Its face is pale gray, its skin is pulled tight against bone. Its teeth are crooked and elongated and its eyes glow.

In this scene it stands in front of a large glowing green crystal pillar, surrounded by black and greenish flames. Its body flows and disappears into the shadows. Its hands are lifted at its sides, casting more dark shadows.
Hidden and trapped inside its chest we can glimpse a reddish emaciated figure.

Dragon Age: Inquisition tarot styled piece featuring Gray Warden Duncan from Dragon Age: Origins. With his forehead pressed into his hand and a regretful expression, he is holding a cup that resembles a joining chalice but he is not looking at it. The chalice is tilted down in his grasp, the contents spilling out like a waterfall. Two more chalices are overturned in the background that seems to be melting away. Another two more crowd behind him, upright, and seem like they have gushing water out of them. A part of the landscape behind him is slowly being eaten away by the blight. The illustration mimics Five of Cups tarot card.

Image containing three separate Dragon Age: Inquistion tarot styled pieces. They are:

1) A piece of Lucanis Dellamorte from Dragon Age: The Veilguard lying in a field of blue flowers, seemingly asleep, with a sword stuck in his torso.

2) A piece of Tarquin from Dragon Age: The Veilguard holding up a sword and a hand over his chest as if in a knightly oath.

3) A piece of Lucanis and Illario Dellamorte from Dragon Age: The Veilguard standing back to back, hands interwoven and dripping blood.

Image containing three separate Dragon Age: Inquistion tarot styled pieces. They are:

1) A piece of Tarquin from Dragon Age: The Veilguard. He is atop a horse, charging forward with a sword in hand and a determined expression. The illustration mimics Knight of Swords tarot card.

2) A piece of player character and Lucanis Dellamorte from Dragon Age: The Veilguard. They are leaning against one another, with their eyes closed, and seeming at peace. Rook is seemingly spilling a joining chalice, and it's dark ichor is slowly pooling beneath them. They are surrounded with a watery looking environment.

3) A piece of The Viper (Ashur) from Dragon Age: The Veilguard. He is driving his staff into the ground and seemingly cleaving in half the Venatori staves rising up from the ground, while batting away another one with his hand. His expression is resolute but he is not even looking at his enemy. The illustration mimics Seven of Wands tarot card.

Altar prayer card for the goddess Diana. A rectangular card has a black border with parts of the Orphic hymn for Diana surrounding it as a border in white text. In the bottom right are twin arrows over a crescent moon representing her and Apollo. In the bottom left and top right are white outlined 8 point stars. Inside the border is a marble shockwave black and grey pattern with white outlining that forms an arch at the top with lining to look like columns on both sides. In the middle is a stag skull with painted antlers of a diamond and star pattern. Behind the skull are smaller 8 point stars and cloud ripples. Above the skull is a scraggly branch of queen Anne’s lace with small dots above. In the top corners are two constellations for Sirius as her hunting dogs and Roman numerals for 13 and 8 for the date of the Nemoralia festival.

Victorian Ward - Black and white illustration of a Victorian wall with a scarab ward framed. The border of the whole piece is a torn paper. Inside is Victorian black and white striped wallpaper with damask type filigree in the black and smaller stripes and speckles in the white with small vertical black stripes on either side. In the damask pattern are slightly abstract symbols of infinity, an hourglass and other resurrection symbols. In the middle is an ornate rectangular frame framing a large scarab beetle with its wings out. On its wings are celestial symbols like Jupiter, stars and the moon. Around the scarab are peony flowers and branches of a tree branching towards the top left with a vine white line swooping in an out and around the frame in the same direction. The scarabs body is engraved like metal with filigree. Behind the scarab in the frame is grain shading grey over black.

Dark Vibrations - Inktober 2022 black and white ink illustration. Plain rolling hills lead to the door of a building with a large central spire and a small covered porch. To the left side of the building is a three facet bay windows and the other windows have ornate stained glass. On top of the central spire is a lighting conductor in the shape of a 5 point star. In the highest window of the spire is stain glass in the shape of an eye. Converging at the start is a large vortex spiraling and expanding through the whole sky. The vortex is pulling party’s of the building up towards it and cracking parts of the wood and foundation. The vortex is casting light and highlights on the building and the tress behind it. Converging towards the building is a circle of 12 white bird silhouettes.

Digital illustration depicting a scene from a classroom of magic users. One student at the centre attempts to control the unwieldy water based magic that rises up out of a book. She has an expression of shock as the magic backfires on her. Behind her is another student and a teacher who gazes on in disappointment.

An illustration depicting a side-on view of the ocean. On top of the water sits a small sailing boat with a figure fishing off to one side. Beneath the waves, a giant shark emerges from the depths to capture the boat.

An illustration depicting a tiefling standing in amongst a crowd, wearing regal clothing. He is glancing back over his shoulder with a smirk as he throws petals back towards his followers who gaze up towards him with adoration.

A young man runs through a maze, viewed from the side and on a downward angle. Beneath him are four Grecian style pillars. He wears a toga and an odd vambrace on one arm.
